Abhidharma Prayer (Funeral)
The Abhidharma prayer is to take the content of the "Abhidharma," which is part three of the Tripitaka, and the specialty of this prayer is that there will be no account of a person or event in history (such as who did what, where), but the "pure truth" of nature and mind.
If translated in summary, the meaning of the Abhidharma chant focuses on these matters:
1. Neutral Dharma (Kusla Thumma...)
The chant begins by classifying nature into three large categories to say that everything in the world falls under this cycle:
Charity: What Is Good, Wise Mentality
Hermeneutics: What Is Evil, The Delusional Mind
Ups: Things that are middle, bad, not evil (such as the body, or the mind that is out of passion)
2. Life Analysis (Eunuch 5)
The chant speaks of "ourselves" not existing, but made up of five components that come together only temporarily.
3. Rules of cause and effect (factors)
The so-called "Mahapat Base" explains that everything in the world does not happen suddenly, but that there are causes and factors, such as because there is this, this follows.
4. Vanity (impermanence)
The ultimate goal of the prayer is to remind those who remain that "everything is happening, set, and extinguished." No one or anything can escape this natural law.
Why do we pray at funerals?
Most people think that they pray for the dead, but in Buddhism, they actually "pray for the living."
Let the latter see that the last body is dissolved, leaving only the good and the evil.
To honor: Abhidharma is considered the most profound high dharma; funeral prayers are therefore considered the ultimate dharma to dedicate charity.
In a nutshell: The Abhidharma chant is to spread the "life subjects" of pure mind and nature so that we let go of entrenchment.
