Bucket List Destination: Iguazu Falls South Americ

When I was planning my own adventure to Iguazu Falls, I quickly realized how much there is to explore beyond just the main viewpoints! It truly is a natural wonder split between ARGENTINA and BRASIL, and to get the full experience, you really need to visit both sides if time allows. On the Argentine side, which I spent a full day exploring, you get up close and personal with the falls. My favorite part was definitely the Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat) circuit. You take a little ecological train, and then it's a walk across a series of platforms right over the river, leading you to the most powerful section of the falls. The sheer force and sound are absolutely mind-blowing – prepare to get soaked! For a different perspective, I also walked the Upper Circuit (Paseo Superior), which offers incredible panoramic views from above, and the Lower Circuit (Paseo Inferior), where you can literally feel the spray and even get close enough to see smaller, individual waterfalls. If you're feeling adventurous, don't miss the Gran Aventura boat trip; it takes you right under some of the falls – a truly exhilarating experience, but again, you will get completely drenched! The Brazilian side offers a contrasting, more panoramic view, and I spent a wonderful half-day there. From this side, you get breathtaking vistas that allow you to grasp the sheer scale of the entire waterfall system. There's a single main walking trail that leads to an incredible viewing platform right near the Devil's Throat, giving you that iconic wide-angle shot. Many people also combine their visit with the Parque das Aves (Bird Park) which is conveniently located near the entrance – it's a fantastic place to see toucans, macaws, and other vibrant South American birds up close. Practical Tips I Learned: Getting Around: On the Argentine side, there are free park buses and the ecological train. On the Brazilian side, it's mostly walking the main path. If you're crossing borders, remember your passport! There are local buses that run between Puerto Iguazú (Argentina) and Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) which are very convenient. Best Time to Visit: I found that visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring or autumn in the Southern Hemisphere – April-May or September-October) gave me pleasant weather and fewer crowds than peak summer. What to Bring: Seriously, bring a raincoat or poncho, and waterproof bags for your electronics. You'll thank me later! Comfortable walking shoes are a must, and don't forget sunscreen and insect repellent. Tickets: Buy your tickets online in advance if possible to save time, especially for the Argentine National Park. Food: There are food options within both parks, but they can be a bit pricey. I packed some snacks and a water bottle to save a few bucks.
