why am i focused on body composition & muscle growth vs “losing weight”?
health.
longevity.
because shrinking yourself should never be the goal — building a strong, capable body is.
muscle protects your joints, balances hormones, boosts metabolism, and gives you energy — and hiiii.. it makes you sexyyyyy.
weight loss might make the scale move, but if you’re losing muscle in the process, you’re actually working against your body in the long run. i care more about what my body can do than what it weighs.
and because i mentioned NAD+, here’s some fun facts: NAD + is a coenzyme that is found in all living cells & is CENTRAL to our metabolism. in our early 30’s, NAD+ levels start to decline. the decline of NAD+ levels is considered the key contributor to the aging process & diseases across multiple tissues. increase your muscle, increase your NAD+ levels and i think you’ve found the fountain of youth.

Read moreWhen I first started my journey with hypothyroidism, one of the most frustrating things wasn't just the fatigue or brain fog; it was looking in the mirror and seeing changes I couldn't explain. Many of you are probably searching for 'what does a thyroid belly look like' or 'hypothyroidism puffy face pictures' because you're seeing these same things in yourself. Believe me, I've been there.
That 'thyroid belly' isn't just regular weight gain. For me, it felt like a stubborn, persistent swelling, especially around my midsection, what many call 'trunk fat.' It's often due to a slowed metabolism, fluid retention, and how our bodies redistribute fat when thyroid hormones are out of whack. It’s disheartening when you’re trying everything and that belly just won’t budge. Similarly, mornings were tough with that 'puffy face' and sometimes even 'hypothyroidism eyes' – where my eyelids felt heavy and my face looked swollen, not just tired. It’s a tell-tale sign of fluid retention and inflammation that often comes with an underactive thyroid.
For years, I tried countless diets and workouts, but nothing truly shifted these specific physical symptoms. I focused on 'fat loss with hypothyroidism' but often neglected body composition. What made a real difference for me was shifting my mindset from just 'losing weight' to actively building a strong, capable body. This meant prioritizing muscle growth, which not only helps protect joints and boost metabolism but also fundamentally changes how your body handles fat and fluid.
While consistent nutrition and strength training were non-negotiable, I also explored targeted support. After much research, I stumbled upon the concept of bioactive peptides. For me, integrating a specific ingestible peptide, like the one I found called 'LEAN,' which is designed to target stubborn body fat – particularly that pesky trunk fat – was a game-changer. I saw a noticeable waist reduction and a rebalancing of my overall body composition. It wasn't about a quick fix, but about giving my body the tools it needed to respond better to my efforts.
Beyond specific supplements, I learned the importance of an anti-inflammatory diet, managing stress, prioritizing sleep, and staying hydrated. These lifestyle changes, combined with a focus on building muscle and the right supplemental support, helped me tackle that stubborn thyroid belly and reduce the puffiness around my face and eyes. Remember, it’s a journey of understanding your body and giving it what it needs to thrive, not just survive.
