It's easy to get caught up in focusing on what we perceive as flaws when we look in the mirror. I used to do this a lot—comparing myself to others and feeling like I was never quite enough. What really helped me was shifting my mindset from a place of judgment to one of kindness. I started reminding myself that my worth isn't tied to perfection or meeting someone else's standards. Practicing self-love is a gradually unfolding process. One practical approach I found powerful was treating myself with the same compassion I would offer a close friend. When negative thoughts arise—like feeling unworthy or not good enough—I gently redirect myself to affirmations about my value and progress. Another important realization is understanding that we are all evolving. What you may struggle to appreciate about yourself today could transform into a source of strength or gratitude in the future. Allowing yourself to be a 'work in progress' removes the pressure to be a finished product and creates space for growth. Incorporating small rituals like journaling about positive qualities, celebrating small wins, and setting boundaries helped me reinforce my self-respect. Remember, you don’t need to earn love—starting with your own. Embracing this truth has been life-changing for me and can be for anyone willing to give themselves the same care they freely offer others.
