@3pm I can smell the Rosewater, "Gin", and citruses. In the bottle, this fragrance smells like a photo-realistic Gin. The fragrance on skin however, not so much.
@4pm I think I'm mainly smelling the Citruses.
@5pm Gorgeous. I feel like it's finally melting with my skin, and I am smelling the rose. It's a rosy skin scent.
... Read moreOkay, fellow fragrance lovers! So you've read about my first impressions and wear test of the Tokyomilk Gin & Rosewater No 12, and you're probably wondering, 'Is this the next must-have in my collection?' This scent truly tells a story on the skin, and I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what makes it so intriguing, especially given those unique notes like Gin and *Rosewater*.
When I first heard of a 'Gin' note, I was instantly curious. In the bottle, it really does have that crisp, almost botanical gin-like aroma, which is quite surprising and fresh. But as it dries down, that's where the magic, and sometimes the mystery, happens. The initial burst of Citrus Zest and Mandarin is so uplifting – it’s like a sparkling cocktail on a warm day. It's not a heavy, syrupy citrus, but rather bright and effervescent, which perfectly complements the fresh side of gin. This opening is truly captivating and sets a very modern tone for the fragrance.
As the hours passed during my wear test, I really noticed how the Mimosa and Rosewood started to bloom. Mimosa often brings a sweet, powdery, honeyed floral nuance, and paired with the deeper, slightly woody undertone of Rosewood, it gives the rose heart a lovely, sophisticated twist. It's not just a straightforward rose; it’s a rose that’s been on a journey, softened and made slightly creamy by these supporting players. This is where it morphs from that initial crispness into a more intimate, rosy skin scent, as I mentioned in my review. The way these notes are blended also gives it a wonderfully 'Synthetic' yet clean and contemporary feel, which I personally find quite appealing for a modern fragrance.
Now, let's talk about longevity, because that's often a big question for lighter, fresher fragrances. While it did become a soft skin scent for me, there are a few tricks I’ve learned to help these beautiful notes linger longer. Always apply to moisturized skin – an unscented lotion or even a light body oil acts as a fantastic base, really grabbing onto the fragrance molecules. Spraying a little on your clothes (just check for stains first!) can also help, as fabric holds scent differently than skin. And don't forget your pulse points – wrists, neck, behind the ears – where the warmth of your body helps diffuse the scent throughout the day. For an extra touch, I sometimes layer it with a simple rose body spray or a citrus-infused moisturizer to enhance those key notes.
This fragrance truly embodies the spirit of spring and summer. It’s light enough for daily wear, perfect for brunch with friends, a leisurely stroll in the park, or even just brightening up a workday. It certainly makes you feel 'Feminine' and 'Modern,' as the description suggests. It's not a loud, attention-grabbing scent, but rather one that draws people closer with its subtle elegance. If you're someone who appreciates nuanced florals with a unique, fresh twist, and you enjoy a scent that evolves beautifully on your skin, then Tokyomilk Gin & Rosewater No 12 is definitely worth exploring. It's a delightful experience that keeps you guessing, in the best way possible! This hidden gem could easily become your next signature scent for warmer weather.
