In my experience implementing Magic the Gathering-style mechanics into a game, I've found that layering different buffs, like villager effects and mushroom boosters, adds an engaging strategic layer that greatly enriches gameplay. For example, stacking effects such as doubling walking or work speed and multiplying XP gains encourages players to plan their resource management thoughtfully. The idea that effects can be shared within a 5-meter radius encourages cooperative strategies among players or AI-controlled units. One of the highlights is the mushroom boosters that instantly extend and amplify active buffs. This mechanic creates moments where timing the use of boosters can shift the balance of work efficiency or combat power decisively. Additionally, having debuff immunity lasting 24 hours gives a valuable tactical resource that players can save for critical challenges. The mention that hours are in-game time rather than real life adds a unique pacing element, letting players experience prolonged benefits during their sessions without feeling rushed. I also found that dragging foraged goods like "Raudskrubb COMMON" onto villagers to apply buffs makes the process intuitive, and allows quick multi-selection for broader buff application. Integrating these stacking buffs and resource-sharing concepts derived from Magic the Gathering not only deepens the gameplay but also encourages creative problem solving and teamwork, whether in single-player or multiplayer settings. Overall, these mechanics transform basic character upgrades into dynamic and interactive gameplay elements that keep players engaged and motivated to experiment with various buff combinations.
