Let’s talk about mental health in this journey.

These past few months haven’t been easy for me at all. I’ve gone through some really tough moments—getting robbed, my relationship almost falling apart, and days where I didn’t even feel like getting up or doing anything at all… and honestly, there are still days when I feel that way. But little by little, I’ve realized that even if I don’t always have the strength, I can’t stay stuck there forever. Sometimes moving forward doesn’t look pretty or perfect—sometimes it’s just surviving one more day… and that still counts. So here I am, trying to keep going, at my own pace, without giving up. 🤍

Over the past few months, like many people, I've encountered unexpected challenges that tested my resilience — from sudden crises such as being robbed, to the strain on close relationships, and days shadowed by hopelessness or low energy. I found that acknowledging these feelings without judgment was the first step in reclaiming my motivation. One thing that truly helped me was redefining what progress looks like. Mental health recovery isn't always linear or dramatic; often, it's about making it through one tough day at a time. Embracing this mindset allowed me to reduce pressure on myself and appreciate small victories, like getting out of bed or reaching out to a friend, which otherwise might seem insignificant. Additionally, involving myself in communities related to fitness and wellness — hashtags like #thickchickfitness and #blackfitness, along with personal body transformation efforts — provided a supportive environment that fostered both physical and mental strength. Movement and self-care practices became a form of therapy, encouraging me to reconnect with my body and mind. I want to emphasize how important it is to move at your own pace. Mental health journeys are deeply individual, and comparing yourself to others can be discouraging. Instead, focusing on personal milestones, no matter how small, builds resilience and hope. Lastly, I encourage those struggling to seek help and share their stories. Vulnerability can be a powerful tool for connection and healing. Remember, surviving each day is a meaningful step forward, and it absolutely counts.
