Hey fellow adventurers! Remember that tricky boss battle against the Infernal Dinosaur KING DODONGO in Ocarina of Time's Dodongo's Cavern? I can still recall the frustration of facing him for the first time, getting rolled over repeatedly! But through trial and error, I've developed a super reliable strategy that makes this fight a breeze. If you're stuck, don't worry, I've got you covered with some tried-and-true methods. First off, let's talk preparation. You absolutely need bombs or bomb flowers. If you're short on bombs, there are plenty of bomb flowers scattered around the arena. Make sure Link has his sword and shield ready, too, though the shield is mostly for blocking smaller attacks or if you get really desperate. The core of this fight revolves around timing and observation. When you first enter the arena, you'll see the massive Infernal Dinosaur KING DODONGO lumbering around. The key to damaging him is when he opens his mouth to inhale. This is your window! Quickly toss a bomb (or run up and drop a bomb flower right in front of him) directly into his open mouth. If your timing is right, the bomb will explode inside him, causing him to stumble and fall, exposing his vulnerable head. Once he's stunned on the ground, don't hesitate! Run up and unleash a flurry of sword attacks on his head. Spin attacks work great here for maximizing damage. After a few hits, he'll start to recover and likely roll across the arena. This is where you need to be quick on your feet. Run to the side or duck into one of the safe alcoves around the edges of the room to avoid getting crushed by his roll. He'll usually roll a full circle or two before stopping. The pattern then repeats: he'll open his mouth, you toss a bomb, he falls, you attack, he rolls. It sounds simple, but getting the rhythm down can take a couple of tries. My biggest tip is to always stay mobile and keep a good distance when he's not inhaling. His roll attack covers a lot of ground, and it's easy to get caught if you're not paying attention. Keep an eye on your bomb count, but as I mentioned, the bomb flowers regenerate, so you shouldn't run out of ammunition. One thing I noticed that really helped me was anticipating his inhale. He usually pauses for a moment before opening his mouth wide. That slight pause is your cue to get ready to throw. Don't throw too early, or he might close his mouth before the bomb gets in. A well-timed throw means a quick stun every time. After a few successful cycles of bomb-and-slash, the Infernal Dinosaur KING DODONGO will finally be defeated, opening the way forward. It feels incredibly satisfying to conquer this boss, and once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder why it seemed so tough in the first place!
