... Read moreHey everyone! ✨ I'm so excited to finally share my experience with Rhyhorn in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet! This Ground/Rock powerhouse has always been a favorite of mine, and hunting for its shiny form in Paldea was an absolute blast. If you're looking to add this sturdy Pokémon to your team or just curious about its stats and Pokedex entry, you've come to the right place!
First off, let's dive into Rhyhorn's Pokedex details. In Scarlet and Violet, Rhyhorn is listed as Pokédex entry #111. It's a dual-type Ground/Rock Pokémon, which gives it some interesting resistances and weaknesses. Its description mentions its incredible charge, capable of smashing through anything in its path with its horn, which is pretty intimidating! I was so thrilled when I finally caught my shiny Rhyhorn – its distinct brown coloration is just fantastic and really stands out compared to its normal gray form. It just makes the whole capture feel even more special.
When it comes to stats, Rhyhorn is a physical beast. Its base Attack and Defense stats are quite high for a non-evolved Pokémon, making it a great tanky attacker early on. While its Special Attack and Speed are on the lower side, its bulk allows it to take a hit and dish out strong physical damage. For abilities, Rhyhorn can have Lightning Rod (which absorbs Electric-type moves and boosts its Special Attack, though Rhyhorn is immune to Electric anyway due to its Ground typing, so it's mainly for redirection in doubles!), Rock Head (prevents recoil damage from moves like Take Down), or its hidden ability, Reckless (boosts the power of moves that cause recoil damage). Choosing the right ability can definitely impact your battle strategy!
Now, for the fun part: shiny hunting! Finding Rhyhorn in Scarlet/Violet isn't too difficult; you can often spot them in rocky, mountainous areas like the East Province (Area Three) or throughout the Great Crater of Paldea. For my shiny hunt, I focused on a Mass Outbreak. Making a sandwich with Shiny Power: Ground or Rock (depending on which type you want to boost) is a game-changer. Then, it's all about checking for shinies and doing picnic resets if they don't appear. The brown shiny Rhyhorn is quite noticeable, thankfully, which makes the hunt less frustrating. Seeing that beautiful brown Rhyhorn pop up on screen after hours of searching was incredibly rewarding!
If you're planning to use Rhyhorn, or its evolutions Rhydon and Rhyperior, in battle, understanding their moveset is key. As a Ground/Rock type, Rhyhorn naturally learns powerful STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) moves like Earthquake and Rock Slide, or even Stone Edge for higher power. Other useful moves could include Drill Run, Megahorn, or even Horn Drill, though that's a risky one! Remember its weaknesses: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ice, and Steel. However, it resists Poison, Fire, Flying, and Rock, and is immune to Electric attacks. If you evolve it into Rhydon and then Rhyperior, you'll get a true powerhouse with even higher Attack and Defense, capable of dominating many matchups. Equipping it with an Eviolite before evolving it can also make Rhyhorn surprisingly bulky in certain formats!
I hope my guide helps you appreciate Rhyhorn as much as I do, whether you're shiny hunting, completing your Pokedex, or building a battle team. Happy catching, trainers!
