The Breville Barista Pro works best with a fine coffee grind specifically suited for espresso, which helps achieve optimal extraction. Avoid using too coarse a grind, as it can lead to under-extracted, weak shots. Tamping pressure is another crucial element. From the notes, it seems overly firm tamping might slow down the extraction process. Try applying moderate, even pressure when tamping your grounds—pressing too hard can compact the coffee too much, restricting water flow and resulting in an overly slow extraction. Pay attention to shot timing as well. Ideal espresso extraction generally takes around 25-30 seconds for a double shot, but adjustments might be needed based on your grind and tamping technique. The machine’s timer can be a great guide here; experimenting with small adjustments will help you find your preferred balance. Also, keeping track of dose weight (around 18-20 grams for a double shot) helps maintain consistency. Use the Barista Pro’s built-in grinder and scales to measure precisely. Finally, cleaning and maintenance are essential for long-term espresso quality. Regularly purge the group head, clean the steam wand after each use, and descale your machine as recommended. These steps ensure every shot tastes fresh and your machine performs at its best. Welcoming espresso lovers to share their favorite techniques and tips can truly enhance your brewing journey. Remember, mastering espresso is all about experimentation and tuning settings to personal taste, so don’t hesitate to try new approaches. Enjoy your chic birthday surprise and your delicious espresso mornings!

Yea I would say you’re tamping too hard. The water can’t pass through the grinds if they’re super compressed together. Just gotta play around with that some. Good luck!
