During my recent trip to Puerto Rico, renting a car truly transformed the experience. Not only was it more cost-effective, but it allowed me to explore beyond the usual tourist spots at my own pace. Our base was an Airbnb in Dorado, about 45 minutes from San Juan, offering a tranquil retreat with a lovely pool where I made some unexpected furry friends. One of the highlights was driving two hours to Crash Boat Beach, a vibrant and scenic area perfect for swimming and soaking up the sun—it’s well worth the time if you want to enjoy a more laid-back beach day. Evening visits to Condado introduced me to fantastic dining options and lively atmospheres that brought the local flavor alive. Old San Juan captivated me with its charming old-world architecture and colorful streets, especially magical when illuminated at night. Walking for hours was effortless amidst such beauty. The island’s views are breathtaking everywhere you go, with plenty of spots to stop and appreciate the scenery, including a memorable moment visiting the JetBlue T-Mobile district. Relaxing by the pool after each adventure was the perfect way to unwind, and the overall warmth of the island, combined with these experiences, made my quick trip unforgettable. If you’re planning a visit, definitely consider renting a car to explore hidden gems and achieve a deeper connection with Puerto Rico’s diverse offerings.
