French Onion Dip

This is better than any store bought chip dip and it’s so easy!

5 Tbsp Dry Minced Onion

1 3/4 Tbsp Beef Bouillon Power (I couldn’t find any so I crushed up the cubes into a powder)

5 Tbsp onion powder

4 tsp Garlic powder

2 1/2 tsp salt

1 1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tsp sugar

Mix all together and then mix 2-3 Tbsp of spice mix into 2 cups of sour cream. Store the rest in a jar or ziplock bag for another time.

... Read moreFrench onion dip is a classic favorite for gatherings, game days, and family dinners. What makes this homemade version stand out is the combination of dry minced onion and beef bouillon powder, which create that rich, savory flavor you often crave in a restaurant-style dip. Using beef bouillon powder intensifies the umami notes, giving the dip a hearty depth that complements the sharpness of onion powder and garlic powder. If you don’t have beef bouillon powder on hand, crushing bouillon cubes into a fine powder works just as well and is a convenient alternative. Combining the spices ahead of time allows you to prepare batches of the dry dip mix that store well in jars or ziplock bags, making it quick and easy to whip up fresh dip anytime by simply mixing 2 to 3 tablespoons of the spice blend into sour cream. This dip goes perfectly with potato chips, fresh vegetables, or even spread on sandwiches. For those watching sodium intake, consider adjusting the amount of added salt or choosing low-sodium bouillon cubes. Another tip is to experiment with Greek yogurt or a sour cream and cream cheese blend to vary the creaminess and tang. Making your own French onion dip at home not only lets you control the ingredients but also gives you the flexibility to customize flavors—try adding a pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne for a subtle kick. This simple recipe elevates your snacking experience with minimal effort, making it a must-try for anyone who loves flavorful, homemade dips.
