Hey fellow lax ladies! We all know looking good on the field can give you an extra boost of confidence, but when it comes to lacrosse hairstyles, 'cute' usually has to go hand-in-hand with 'functional.' Nobody wants their hair falling out mid-game or getting in their eyes while trying to make a crucial play! I've experimented with so many styles over the years, and I'm excited to share some of my go-to looks and tips for keeping your hair game strong during practice and games. First up, let's talk about the ultimate game-day hero: braids leading into a high bun. This is my absolute favorite, and for good reason! As you can see in the pics, it's super effective. I usually start with two main braids, one on each side, running from my temples back. You can do French braids, Dutch braids, or even just regular three-strand braids – whatever feels most secure for your hair type. The key is to keep them tight against your scalp. Once you reach the crown of your head, gather all your hair, including the ends of your braids, into a super high and tight ponytail. Then, twist that ponytail into a secure bun. Use plenty of hair ties and bobby pins to make sure it's absolutely solid. This style is fantastic because it keeps all your hair neatly tucked away, preventing wisps from escaping and getting caught in your lacrosse goggles. Plus, a high bun sits perfectly above most helmet straps, ensuring maximum comfort. But what if you want a little variety? Don't worry, there are other cute options! The Double Dutch Braid Pigtails: Instead of bringing two braids into one bun, you can continue each braid all the way down and secure them as pigtails. This is a super cute and youthful look that also keeps your hair completely out of your face. Just make sure the braids are tight enough that they won't loosen up too much during intense play. Bubble Braids: For a fun twist, try a bubble braid. Start with a high ponytail, then add elastic bands every few inches down the length of the ponytail, gently pulling each section to create a 'bubble' effect. This is surprisingly secure and looks really stylish! The Classic French Braid (or Dutch Braid) Ponytail: A single, tight French or Dutch braid starting from your forehead and going all the way down your head into a low or mid-ponytail is always a winner. If your helmet allows, a low ponytail can be very comfortable. Essential Hair Hacks for Game Day: Dry Shampoo is Your Friend: If you're playing multiple games or just need a refresh, a little dry shampoo at the roots can work wonders. Strong Hair Ties: Invest in good quality, seamless hair ties that won't snap mid-game. I love the spiraled 'telephone cord' ones! Hairspray & Gel: Don't be afraid to use a strong-hold hairspray or a little gel around your hairline to tame flyaways, especially when wearing lacrosse goggles that might press your hair down. Bobby Pins Galore: Seriously, you can never have enough bobby pins. Use them to secure stray pieces, especially around your ears and neck. Pre-Game Prep: Braiding your hair the night before or early in the morning can save you stress. Sometimes braids even hold better after a little wear! Finding the perfect lacrosse hairstyle is all about balancing cuteness with practicality.
