Drawing Saitama as a Pokémon!
You guys, I'm so excited to share my latest art project with you all! I've always loved both One-Punch Man and Pokémon, and one day, I just thought, 'What if Saitama was a Pokémon?' The idea wouldn't leave my head, so I decided to bring it to life! It was such a fun challenge to imagine the Caped Baldy as a creature in the Pokémon universe. My process usually starts with a rough sketch. For this Saitama drawing, I first thought about his iconic features: the bald head, the determined (or often bored) expression, and his simple hero suit. Then, I considered what kind of Pokémon he would be. A Fighting-type, for sure, maybe with some Psychic elements for his sheer overwhelming power! I began by loosely sketching out a pose that captured both his strength and a bit of a Pokémon-like stance. Think Machamp meets a human-like legendary. Don't be afraid to make mistakes here; that's what pencils and erasers are for! For those wondering how to make Saitama look like a Pokémon, it's all about blending familiar traits. Next, I refined the sketch, paying attention to the details. I experimented with adding some Pokémon-esque features – maybe armored shoulder pads like a fully evolved starter, or even some energy effects around his fists. I wanted to make sure he still felt like the ONE PUNCH hero we all know, but with that distinct PORÊNON vibe. I even considered what his abilities or attacks would be if he were a Pokémon! Would he have an attack called 'Serious Punch' with 999 base power? Haha! This stage is where you really get to play with the crossover concept. For anyone trying to sketch Saitama in a new way, think about what elements from the other universe you can incorporate without losing the original character's essence. After I was happy with the lines, it was time for inking. I used fine-liner pens to make the outlines crisp. For shading, I decided to try out crosshatching. It's a fantastic technique for adding depth and texture, especially for characters with strong musculature or defined suits, like Saitama. It involves drawing parallel lines in one direction, and then drawing another set of parallel lines across the first set at an angle. The closer the lines, the darker the shade. It takes a bit of patience, but the results are incredibly rewarding! If you're looking for an art drawing technique to really elevate your work, give crosshatching a go. It can make even a simple Saitama drawing easy to give more impact. Finally, I added colors. I stuck to Saitama's classic yellow, red, and white, but gave them a slightly more vibrant, Pokémon-card-style pop. I also added a simple background to make him stand out. Seeing the finished piece, I felt really proud of how I managed to merge two of my favorite worlds. It just goes to show that with a little imagination, you can create something truly unique.
