Everything I DIY for my baby’s 1st Birthday party !
I got a Cricut maker, I loved creating stuff 😍
Took me almost 2 months but definitely worth it 🙌
Lion king theme 🤩
After spending so much time creating all those beautiful DIY decorations, from the 'LEO IS 1' tote bags to the adorable Simba water bottles and custom centerpieces, the next big question on my mind was, 'What about the food?' For a 1st birthday party, planning the menu can be just as fun and creative as the decor, especially when you want to keep the Lion King theme going! I wanted options that were safe and tasty for little ones, while also being enjoyable for the adults. One of the main things I focused on was finger foods that were easy for small hands to grab and that didn't require too much fuss. For the tiny guests, I prepared soft fruit pieces like melon and banana, small steamed veggie sticks, and tiny cheese cubes. These are always a hit and you can often arrange them in fun, themed ways – like a 'Lion's Mane' fruit platter with a big circular center of yellow fruits surrounded by orange and red ones! For a whimsical touch that ties into the 'grub' theme from the movie, I made "Pumbaa's Mud Pies" – simple chocolate pudding cups topped with crushed Oreos for 'dirt' and a few gummy worms peeking out. They're super easy to assemble and kids (and adults!) love them. Another fun idea was "Zazu's Fruit Skewers" with a mix of colorful berries and grapes, perfect for a jungle safari feel. And of course, you can't forget the smash cake! This is a central part of any 1st birthday celebration. While I decorated a custom "My First Year" board with all of Leo's milestones, the smash cake itself was another opportunity for DIY fun. I opted for a simple, lightly sweetened vanilla cake that I could frost with a natural cream cheese frosting. I then added a few edible leaves and a small Simba topper to match our decor. It was messy, but absolutely worth it for the photos and Leo's reaction! For the older guests, I kept things simple but delicious. A 'Hakuna Matata' trail mix bar with nuts, dried fruit, and pretzels was a popular self-serve snack. We also had 'Pride Rock Sandwiches' – simple turkey and cheese cut into fun animal shapes using cookie cutters. To wash it all down, 'Jungle Juice' (a vibrant fruit punch) in custom cups with 'HAKUNA MATATA' silhouettes was a refreshing choice. Remember, the key is to have fun with it! Keep dietary restrictions in mind, especially for the little ones, and don't be afraid to get creative with your presentation. Just like with the DIY decor, a little effort goes a long way in making the food part of your baby's 1st birthday party truly unforgettable and a roaring success!
