Mermaid 🧜♀️ Fantasy
still be crossing my mind 😭
Like I really went into this thinking it was just gonna be some cute little fantasy read…
and baby it was way more than that.
Yeah it’s mermaids, a whole kingdom, and something weird going on in the water…
but the story?? it got layers.
It’s giving grief.
It’s giving tension.
It’s giving “I don’t wanna deal with you but I can’t stay away from you” 😩
Bayou out here trying to save his people,
and Rachal?? she still hurt and lowkey blaming him for everything.
And even with all that…
the connection still there 👀
What really got me is how everything slowly starts coming together.
Like nothing feels rushed, but the deeper you get, the more you like… oh this bigger than I thought.
And the fact that I read this TWO YEARS AGO and still remember how it made me feel??
Yeah… that says a lot.

The story doesn’t just revolve around mystical underwater kingdoms and mermaid lore; it thoughtfully explores themes of loss, blame, and complex interpersonal connections. Bayou’s struggle to protect his people adds a heroic dimension, while Rachal’s internal conflict makes the narrative relatable and poignant. I was genuinely surprised by how the layers unfolded gradually in the book. Nothing felt rushed or forced, which made the tension between characters feel natural and engaging. The slow build-up allows readers to immerse themselves fully, making each revelation more impactful as you dive deeper into the story. The interplay of grief and unresolved feelings adds a human element to this fantasy world, making the characters’ journeys feel genuine. Another memorable aspect is how the author integrates real emotional struggles in the midst of fantastic elements like the mysterious happenings in the water and the undersea kingdom. This balance of fantasy and emotional realism is what makes the story stick with you long after you finish reading. It’s not just about escapism; it invites reflection on personal relationships and how we cope with pain and forgiveness.
