FIRST TRIMESTER: what every mom should know!

👉🏼 Morning Sickness ≠ Just Mornings

Nausea can strike anytime (yes, even at midnight). Mine was ALWAYS in the evenings after dinner.

👉🏼 Exhaustion is on Another Level

Your body is working overtime to grow a baby, build the placenta, and produce more blood, all while hormones like progesterone and hCG surge. Low blood sugar, iron depletion, and disrupted sleep add to the fatigue — rest up! I spent majority of my first trimester on the couch or in bed!

👉🏼 You Might Not “Feel Pregnant” Every Day

Symptoms come and go, and that’s okay

👉🏼 Mood Swings Are Real

Crying over a commercial? Totally normal.

👉🏼 Pregnancy Anxiety

I started having pretty bad anxiety in the first trimester. Those first 10 weeks of being pregnant before your first appointment are pretty nerve wracking. I found myself constantly stressing out about the possibility of there not being a heartbeat at that first appointment. Just know anxiety is normal and it may hit you hard – but try to push those thoughts away with positive talk, thoughts, and consumption.

👉🏼 Cravings & Aversions Get Weird

One day you love pizza, the next day it’s your worst enemy.

👉🏼 Bloating Starts Early & Digestion Slows Down

No, it’s not a bump yet—it’s just gas (and hormones). Say hello to constipation, gas, and feeling way too full.

👉🏼It’s Okay to Feel Overwhelmed

Pregnancy is a rollercoaster, and every emotion is valid.

... Read moreThe first trimester is a transformative time filled with many changes. Expect symptoms like morning sickness, which can happen any time of the day, not just mornings. This period also sees heightened fatigue because your body works hard to support the fetus and build essentials like the placenta. Hormonal surges add to mood swings and anxiety, especially before that first ultrasound appointment. Assessing your cravings is common; you may love certain foods today and despise them tomorrow. Furthermore, gastrointestinal changes such as bloating and constipation can occur due to hormonal fluctuations. Remember, feeling overwhelmed is absolutely normal during this rollercoaster of emotions. Seeking support and sharing experiences with other expectant mothers can provide comfort and reassurance during this journey. Embrace these changes, and don’t hesitate to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
