Takes me longer to drive to my appointments 😅
OB appointments are now 5min or less! Yes, I did struggle to get back up 🫠🤰🏻

It's true, as you get further along in your pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, those OB appointments can feel incredibly brief! My last one here in Arizona was a whirlwind, just like I mentioned – in and out in what felt like five minutes. While the appointments themselves are quick, the journey to and from, and the sheer effort to simply move your body, becomes a whole new adventure! For anyone just starting their pregnancy journey or wondering about the typical 'OB schedule' or 'OB plan' during pregnancy, it really ramps up as you get closer to your due date. In the first trimester, you might have an initial lengthy visit, followed by monthly check-ups. The second trimester generally continues with those monthly appointments, often focusing on things like anatomy scans and glucose tests to ensure everything is progressing well. But when you hit the third trimester, things definitely shift! From around week 28 to 36, most mamas-to-be will find themselves having OB appointments every two weeks. Then, from week 36 until delivery, it usually becomes a weekly visit! This increased 'OB schedule' is designed to closely monitor both you and your baby as you approach the big day. Even though they're more frequent, these appointments often are shorter, especially if everything is progressing smoothly and there are no immediate concerns. So, what actually happens in these speedy third-trimester check-ups? Typically, they'll check your blood pressure, weight, and urine for any signs of protein or sugar. They'll measure your fundal height (the distance from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus) to make sure your baby is growing on track. Most excitingly, you'll almost always get to hear your baby's heartbeat! Towards the very end of your pregnancy, your provider might also start discussing labor and delivery plans in more detail, checking your baby's position, and performing a Group B Strep screening. Even though the doctor or midwife might only be in the room for a few minutes, it’s still your chance to ask questions! I always try to write down any concerns or questions I have ahead of time so I don't forget anything important in the moment. It really helps make the most of that limited face-to-face time and ensures all your worries are addressed. And yes, let's talk about the 'struggle to get back up' part! It's SO real. As your belly grows and your center of gravity shifts, simple movements become Olympic feats. Getting off the exam table, putting on shoes, or even just rolling over in bed can feel like a major workout. My advice? Don't be afraid to ask for a hand! Your OB staff are incredibly understanding and used to it, and there’s absolutely no shame in needing a little assistance. Sometimes, just taking a moment to gather yourself before attempting to stand up slowly can help too. Remember, your body is doing incredible work, and it's perfectly okay to take things a little slower. Knowing what to expect regarding your 'ob plan' can help alleviate some anxiety, even if the physical parts are still challenging!
