I Got Dumped Via Txt And Didn’t Take It Lying Down

So I was talking to this guy for a little while, and things started to get pretty serious and then one day he sends me this text.

I wanna be clear there were red flags leading up to this about his ego, his insecurities, and his entitlement. He is cocky, and has an inflated sense of self. I’m talking next-level main character syndrome. I noticed he was the kind of person that downplayed other people’s accomplishments, even my own, and centered himself in everything we talked about.

All of that aside, I hate a coward that will break up through the safety and security of a text message. His emotional maturity exposed itself in 12 pixels or less, and I can already tell you he and I ain’t equals. If he couldn’t even pick up the phone or look me in the eye to say goodbye, then baby, he wasn’t worthy of saying hello in the first place.

He really thought he could take the soft exit ramp and get away with it. He really sent a TED Talk via text thinking it would pass for emotional maturity, like, “let me just dress up my avoidance in empathy and hope you won’t notice I dipped without a real conversation.” Sir, no. Not with a Scorpio. Not today. Not ever.

He underestimated the audacity tax and I swiftly collected in full with interest, punctuation, and a closing paragraph to send his ego straight to voicemail.

He really tried to make his avoidance sound like emotional intelligence, talkin bout “checking in with myself”, like he’s some kind of emotionally enlightened monk when really he just didn’t want to face a real, mutual conversation.

That’s textbook softboy gaslighting:

🚩Sprinkle in some flowery compliments to cushion the blow (“your mind is something I’d love to stay connected with” = I want the benefits of your brilliance without the accountability).

🚩Pretend to be respectful while denying you the respect of a proper conversation.

🚩Make it sound like he’s doing you a favor by “giving you space” when really, he’s dodging the discomfort of honesty.

He thought he could emotionally mansplain his way into being the good guy while exiting stage left with clean hands. But I saw through it. I read him like a book, and not one of those dreamy ones, either. One of those paperback self-help books written by a man who thinks he invented introspection. You know the ones 😉

Being able to deliver a calm, yet savage response is something that feels therapeutic to me. It gives me an outlet to release some aggression and emotion without causing harm. Let this be a lesson: never let someone play with you like that. Never let someone act like a coward and then have the nerve to try to gaslight you in the process, because “clarity” without conversation is just a monologue. Don’t let that slide. Respect yourself enough to make them feel comfortable with their cowardice.

... Read moreBreakups can be emotionally taxing, especially when they occur through a text message, which tends to lack the respect of face-to-face conversations. Many people may feel blindsided and hurt, grappling with feelings of inadequacy or confusion. Recognizing the signs before the breakup is crucial. Typical red flags include inconsistent communication, lack of emotional depth, and a tendency to minimize your feelings or achievements. In those cases, it's vital to foster self-respect and be prepared for potential emotional mishandling during the breakup process. It's empowering to stand up for yourself and assert that you deserve more than a brief text indicating the end of your relationship. An effective response to such a breakup can help detach from feelings of rejection while also affirming your self-worth. In this situation, some might want to prepare a thoughtful response expressing their feelings while clarifying that the decision lacked respect. Channeling that energy into self-improvement or creative outlets, such as journaling or sharing experiences, can facilitate healing. Ultimately, a breakup—especially one conducted in an impersonal way—should not dictate your worth. By addressing the situation openly, you set boundaries and affirm your value to yourself and others. Remember, clarity in communication should always be sought, regardless of the situation's emotional weight. Maintaining respect for oneself is integral to personal growth after a challenging relationship.
