... Read moreYou know that feeling, right? That moment when you're absolutely crushing it in your business, perhaps you've even 'booked your entire schedule for 2026 in one day,' and then someone pipes up with unsolicited advice, or worse, outright criticism. This 'POV' from my daily life as a beautician is something I bet many of you can relate to. It’s a mix of immense pride in your hard work and that little internal eye-roll when a 'yt Karen' decides your successful approach isn't up to their standards. For me, getting to a point where my calendar is bursting with appointments wasn't an overnight thing. It took years of honing my craft, building genuine connections with clients, and constantly learning. Word-of-mouth referrals are gold, and providing an exceptional experience means clients not only come back but tell all their friends. I've found that being authentic and letting my unique style shine through my work and my business personality actually attracts the right kind of clients – those who appreciate my vibe and trust my expertise. But even when you’re riding high on success, there will always be those who try to dim your sparkle. The 'yt Karen' scenario, where someone questions how you 'run my business' despite clear evidence of success, is a classic. Over the years, I've learned a few tricks to handle these moments gracefully, without letting them derail my energy or my day. First, boundaries are your best friend. It’s okay to politely disengage from conversations that aren't productive or are clearly aimed at undermining you. Remember, your energy is precious. Second, focus on your raving fans. The vast majority of your clients appreciate you. Their loyalty and happiness are what truly matter, not the singular voice of a detractor. Third, find your humor. Sometimes, the absurdity of the situation just calls for a good laugh. It helps to release tension and reminds you not to take things too personally. Lastly, let your success speak for itself. What’s a better retort to criticism than a fully booked calendar and happy clients? My schedule, booked out for years, is a testament to the trust my clients place in me. So, for all my fellow entrepreneurs, creatives, and service providers out there: keep shining, keep booking, and don't let anyone dim your light. Your hard work and dedication will always outweigh the noise. And trust me, finding humor even in the most frustrating 'Karen' moments makes the journey so much more enjoyable!
