working on Viktor fanart 🫶
Hey everyone! I'm so thrilled to finally share a peek into the creation of my latest digital fanart piece featuring Viktor. For those of you who know, Viktor, often known as the Machine Herald from League of Legends, has such an iconic and complex design, making him a fascinating subject to draw. I've been a huge fan of his lore and aesthetic for a while, and I really wanted to try capturing his intricate details and powerful presence in my own style. The journey started, as many of my digital drawings do, with a rough sketch. I usually begin by blocking out the main shapes and pose to get the overall composition right. For Viktor, it was crucial to get his posture and the imposing feel of his augmented arm just right. I spent a good amount of time on this stage, refining the anatomy and making sure the pose conveyed both strength and a hint of his melancholic genius. Once I was happy with the sketch, I moved on to the line art. This is where I really dive into the details, meticulously drawing out his robotic enhancements, the glowing parts of his staff, and the folds in his cloak. Digital art allows for such precision, and I love zooming in to make sure every line is crisp and purposeful. It’s a bit time-consuming, but the clean lines really make a difference in the final piece. Coloring is always my favorite part! I started with the base colors, laying down the main hues for his metallic parts, clothing, and skin tone. Then came the shading and highlights. This is where the magic happens, bringing depth and dimension to the drawing. I focused on using cool tones for his metallic arm and warmer, subtle tones for his human elements to create a contrast that emphasizes his half-machine nature. Achieving that metallic sheen and the glow from his staff was a fun challenge – lots of layering and blending! One particular challenge was getting the lighting right, especially with his glowing eye and staff. I experimented with different digital brushes and blending modes to make them really pop without looking unnatural. My biggest tip for anyone trying to draw characters with glowing elements is to think about how that light would interact with the surrounding surfaces. It's not just about drawing a bright spot; it's about showing its impact on the environment. I truly poured my heart into this Viktor fanart, trying to do justice to such a beloved character. It's rewarding to see the piece come together, from a simple idea to a fully rendered digital painting. I hope this glimpse into my process encourages fellow artists out there to pick up their digital pens and create! What do you think of the final outcome? I’d love to hear your thoughts and if you have any questions about my digital art workflow!
