Book Review Time!!
The only reason I found out this was a book was because I was Googling the cast of the movie. While I loved the movie, I loved the book so much more. If you like romance novels, I highly recommend it!!#bookreview #SallyThrone #TheHatingGame #romancenovels #bookworm
Okay, so you know how sometimes you watch a movie and then discover it was actually a book? That's exactly what happened to me with 'The Hating Game' by Sally Thorne. I absolutely adored the movie, but after delving into the pages of The Hating Game book, I have to confess: the novel completely eclipsed the film for me! And trust me, that's saying a lot because I thought the movie was fantastic. If you're a fan of witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, then Sally Thorne's The Hating Game is an absolute must-read. The story follows Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman, two executive assistants who are arch-nemeses working side-by-side. Their passive-aggressive (and sometimes just aggressive!) interactions are pure gold. What starts as a fierce office rivalry slowly, *so slowly*, blossoms into something much deeper and more complex. The Hating Game novel is a masterclass in slow-burn romance, making every glance, every sarcastic remark, and every shared moment feel incredibly significant. The internal monologues of Lucy, especially, are laugh-out-loud funny and incredibly relatable. You truly get inside her head, understanding her insecurities and her undeniable attraction to Joshua, even when she's trying to deny it. One of the reasons The Hating Game book resonated so much more with me than the movie adaptation is the depth of character development. While the movie did a commendable job bringing Lucy and Josh to life, the book allowed for so much more nuance in their respective backstories and motivations. You truly understand why Joshua acts the way he does, and Lucy's journey to self-acceptance feels more earned. The emotional stakes felt higher, and the payoff was incredibly satisfying. Plus, there were so many tiny, perfect moments and bits of dialogue that just couldn't make it into a two-hour film, but they add so much richness to the story in the book. And let's talk about the visual appeal! The book cover for The Hating Game is iconic, isn't it? I love the illustrated style, featuring the distinct woman in a yellow dress and a man in a white shirt and yellow tie, perfectly capturing the playful yet sophisticated vibe of the story. It immediately draws you in, hinting at the delightful romance inside. I also noticed the version I have, which is a paperback edition, includes a lovely quote by Emily Henry – a great touch from one romance queen to another! It’s these small details that make owning the physical book such a joy. For anyone who loves romance novels that challenge characters, build tension expertly, and deliver a truly heartwarming and steamy happily-ever-after, this is it. Sally Thorne has a way of writing characters that feel incredibly real, making you root for them from start to finish. Her storytelling makes you believe in the power of love, even in the most unlikely of places (like a corporate office where you supposedly hate your colleague!). So, if you've seen the movie, or even if you haven't, I implore you to pick up The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. It's a journey of self-discovery, witty banter, and undeniable chemistry that will leave you smiling long after you've turned the last page. It truly affirmed my love for contemporary romance. Have you read it? What were your thoughts on the book versus the movie? Let me know in the comments!
