Pure Box 80 Pro

Hi! I bought the Huawei Pura 80 Pro two weeks ago.

I can tell you that this speaker is a serious toptier, like a JBL with it, a tight bass, a clear voice, even a soft instrument in a song, and I feel like the machine vibrates when watching a movie or listening to music.

Camera story...I still think Huawei's Xmage is more direct in color, and Huawei has a little contrast, looks like a cartoon / movie, but a lot of bugs. I found Bug in a bad camera app, probably because of the processing? Sometimes shooting at low light (in the evening), the camera distorts the environment, it seems to breathe. There is a red color in the picture.

But the images from the main lens, ultra-wide, telephoto are very good, according to the review (without a bug).

EMUI 15 is not very customizable, can not adjust Quick Settings at all, I do not use Huawei Music, Super Device, Do Not Disturb, they eat a lot of Quick Settings, and the automatic brightness is always on when rebooting, and the screen folder is not transparent anymore, not opaque...

The net signal is 4G, but I've noticed that when it's bad, it likes to come off, but it's basically fine.

The battery is good, not great, but okay. I see that Huawei will keep improving the battery, right? I'm not sure. I have to wait and see.

What I really like is that it's not hot, even after hours of video calls. It's only 41-43 degrees Celsius. That's video call + social play + screen sharing in Discord (watch movies together). This goes 55 degrees Celsius when doing the same thing, haha. Even when you're new, it's no surprise to find a green line. This kind of heat-controlled phone is really rare. I use the DevInfo Overlay app to watch battery temperature, CPU, GPU.

The other thing I like is that it's available to charge 65W or 100W. I think it's going to extend the battery life and prevent high heat when charging.

The fingerprint scan sensor on the power button is great! Even if the hands are wet, they can scan!

I don't know much about Kunlun Glass Gen2, but I saw some tortured clips.

Use GMS Core for Google Maps, Gmail, etc., and then use Third Party's Appstore for apps not available in the App Gallery.

It's a very good phone, a very good one, hopefully a lot of software updates and improvements.

Crucially, Android 12 has expired its security patch support from Google (March 2025). Huawei is entirely responsible for fixing new vulnerabilities. Huawei's EMUI is a customized 'skin' on the old Android 12. And it is completely different from the HarmonyOS NEXT being developed for the Chinese market.

Conclusion:

Can't solve the basic problem: A problem that is deeply embedded in the system and requires new features or security measures added to Android 13 or above. It can't be fixed or fully on old Android 12.

HarmonyOS NEXT Unsolvable: Security fixes and new features that Huawei made in HarmonyOS NEXT that are not on AOSP. They are on completely different kernels and frameworks. These fixes are not easy or direct to enter in EMUI / Android 12 for users around the world.

So there's a technological gap where how good the hardware can't help it. Consumers outside China pay the price of the flagship, but they get a risky and old operating system.
