My parents are in debt.
The law is clear.
👉 "not responsible for debt." Instead of parents.
As long as you're not.
• Signed as co-borrower
• Signed as guarantor
• Take your property and mortgage it.
Just a baby. The DEA can't call from you.
So what can the DEA do?
The B.C. has the right:
• Debt collected from parents only
• Seize / sell property taken by parents to support or mortgage
• Sue the parent court (not sue the child)
In case you "have to be careful." ⚠️
Don't accidentally:
• Sign papers to help parents without reading
• Sign "Indebted" or "Borrower"
• Take your name / land / home to support
if sign when = immediately bound
If you want to "help" risk-free,
Safer alternatives:
• Save cash at times (not through contract)
• Let your parents go and ask for debt restructuring with the B.C.
(The B.C. has quite a lot of measures to help farmers)
• Go with you as a witness / informant but not sign the support.
