Armed with Pinterest, acrylic paint, and an inability to sit still and do nothing- she can make anything happen🧚🎨
After spending well over a year pondering what to do about our sad old mailbox that came with the cottage, I decided that the best course of action was to take matters into my own hands and DIY it! Inspired by Northern European folk art and armed with unlimited access to Pinterest I conjured up just enough inspiration to create the sweetest matching folk art mailbox & house sign set!
DIY projects like refurbishing an old mailbox can be a fulfilling and creative way to personalize your outdoor space. Drawing inspiration from Northern European folk art not only adds a unique cultural touch but also brings vibrant colors and traditional motifs that stand out beautifully. When embarking on a similar project, begin by researching characteristic patterns such as floral designs, geometric shapes, and symmetrical layouts that define Northern European folk art. Pinterest is an excellent resource for gathering these visual ideas and adapting them to your own style. For materials, high-quality acrylic paint is ideal because it provides durability against the elements and vivid colors. Before painting, clean and sand the surface of your mailbox and house sign to ensure the paint adheres well. Using a matte or satin finish can also enhance the folk art look while protecting your work. One tip from experience is to sketch your design lightly with a pencil before painting to prevent mistakes. Taking your time layering the colors and letting each layer dry properly will result in a more polished and long-lasting finish. This project does not require complex tools – just your creativity, patience, and an eagerness to transform something old into something beautiful and meaningful. Not only will you enjoy the process, but you'll also add a warm, inviting element to your home's entrance that reflects both your personality and artistic spirit.
