Andddd we’re back for day two and ✨REVEAL DAY✨ of creating my dream whimsical entryway!! This project ended up being infinitely more difficult than I anticipated- partially because of user error & partially because that’s just how home renos go, especially in an old house.

But after a couple extra days of work & a few meltdowns later, it’s finally complete & in my opinion- it was worth every bit of the struggle, because she’s GORGEOUS!

From my own journey, I found that working on an old house demands patience and flexibility because unexpected issues often arise—sometimes due to user error, and other times simply from the quirks of an aged structure. One key takeaway is the importance of thorough planning before starting the project. I recommend making a detailed list of materials, tools, and potential problems you might encounter, like uneven floors or outdated wiring, to minimize surprises. However, even with the best preparation, allow extra time in your schedule for setbacks—they are almost guaranteed. Embracing the character of an English countryside cottage means working with materials and designs that complement the historical charm. For instance, I chose natural wood finishes, soft pastel colors, and vintage-inspired décor elements to create that cozy, nostalgic vibe synonymous with cottage life and grandma core aesthetics. During the renovation, I also discovered the value of community advice. Online forums focused on old home restorations and cottage style can offer invaluable tips for overcoming difficulties like sourcing authentic materials or replicating period-appropriate details. Don’t hesitate to seek support; it made a huge difference in my project. Ultimately, despite the emotional and physical challenges—including a few meltdowns—the sense of accomplishment once the entryway was complete was extraordinary. The space not only reflects a dreamy whimsical style but feels like a warm welcome that honors the history and soul of the home. Whether you’re considering a similar renovation or just love cottage core inspiration, embracing the imperfections and unique stories baked into old homes makes the process all the more meaningful.
