Building Muscle After Kids |My Strong Mom Comeback
I used to work out inconsistently, mostly based on my mood. If I felt motivated, I went. If not, I skipped. I was chasing my pre-baby body, wanting to be skinny again but not really strong.
This time is different. My kids are 6 & 4 and I’m done playing around. I show up no matter my mood. I’m not training to be smaller. I’m training to be stronger. Building muscle, rebuilding my core, and strengthening my pelvic floor for real life.
And yes… planks are still my least favorite 😂 but I do them anyway.
Because discipline > mood. And I’m proud of that.

After having kids, the approach to fitness truly changes. I learned from experience that chasing a pre-baby body for just being skinny didn’t serve me well. Instead, focusing on strength and function became my new goal. What helped me stay committed was shifting my motivation from appearance to health — particularly rebuilding my core and strengthening my pelvic floor, which are crucial for mothers. I found that even short, targeted workouts after the gym made a big difference. For example, adding 10-15 minutes of sculpting or Pilates exercises at home, including a daily 1-minute plank, improved my core stability over time. Though planks have always been challenging and my least favorite, pushing through that discomfort built discipline that outweighed fluctuating moods. Consistency was another game-changer. No more skipping workouts based on how I felt. Showing up regularly, even on low-motivation days, kept my progress steady. I recommend tracking small wins and progress milestones to stay inspired, such as improving plank hold times or noticeable increases in muscle tone. Finally, understanding the importance of pelvic floor health beyond just aesthetics empowered me to prioritize exercises addressing that. If you’re a mom looking to rebuild strength after kids, focus on functional strength, core integrity, and pelvic wellness rather than just weight or size. It’s a sustainable approach that supports real-life activities and overall well-being.
