With the rising costs of grocery items, making homemade sweetened condensed milk has become a practical and satisfying alternative. From my experience, using a half gallon of milk combined with sugar is a simple yet effective way to replicate the store-bought version without the hefty price tag. This DIY method not only saves money but also gives you control over the ingredients, allowing for a fresher and potentially healthier result. To make your own condensed milk, gently simmer the milk and sugar on low heat, stirring frequently until the mixture reduces and thickens into a creamy, sweet consistency. This process usually takes some time, but the end product is worth the patience. Homemade condensed milk can be used in various recipes, from ice cream and fudge to coffee and baked goods. I found that making condensed milk from scratch also adds a rewarding personal touch to homemade desserts. As grocery prices soar, embracing these kitchen experiments can turn into a fun and cost-effective hobby. Plus, knowing exactly what's in your condensed milk can be a big plus for those avoiding preservatives or excess additives. If you’re planning to use your homemade condensed milk for ice cream, it works especially well with no-churn recipes, giving you rich and creamy results without the need for an ice cream maker. This approach has transformed the way I cook and bake, making me feel more resourceful and connected to what I eat. Trying this at home might just change your cooking routine too!
