One thing my mother and the matriarchs on my father’s side of the family always taught me was this: have your own roadmap for your life.
Not someone else’s dream.Not society’s expectations.Your roadmap. Your goals. Your vision.
Every single year, I sit down and write out the things I want to achieve. Some goals I complete. Some roll over into the next year. And that’s okay because progress is still progress.
But there’s one lesson that has stayed with me for years. My father repeated it often, but it originally came from my great aunt:
“You have six months to get your affairs in order and another six months to attend to your affairs.”
In other words…Plan your life.Then go live it intentionally.
No drifting. No waiting for the “perfect time.”Just clarity, discipline, and action.
I get it now.
The wisdom of our elders is more powerful than we realize when we’re younger. Their lessons become the blueprint that carries us through life.

Growing up, I never fully appreciated the advice passed down by the elders in my family until I started applying it myself. Incorporating this mindset has helped me navigate challenges and uncertainties with more confidence.
