Rare Beauty Perfume Review 🫶
Rare Beauty just released their first ever fragrance ‘Rare’! If you’re on TikTok then you know this is just everywhere! Sooo does it live up to the hype? How does it compare to Selena Gomez by Selena Gomez? Let’s talk… 💭
For $75 you get 50mL of perfume in a very unique and amazing bottle. Is it worth the $75? Hmmm yes & no.
Example from experience: it took me roughly 2 years to finish a 1oz (29mL) celebrity owned perfume entirely that was priced at $50. If we glance at the market a lot of celebrity fragrances that are even 100mL are $70-80, so 50mL for $75….i say no.
My yes is the smell, which let’s be honest you want me to stop boring you to death of the pricing technicalities. The notes that were promoted are vanilla, caramel & sandalwood. On my skin I 100% get the vanilla & caramel with a light touch of sandalwood. I mean very light so if you’re afraid of sandalwood, don’t be for this scent! Weird take away, it smells slightly floral like very slightly but enough that I can smell it.
Edit: it’s been sitting on my skin for a minute now & the caramel is really pulling through 🎉 love it!
Bonus: How does it compare to Selena’s OG fragrance? It doesn’t but I wanted to include her OG to the review incase anyone fell down the rabbit hole & now wants her OG too. Her OG is extremely juvenile, like I’d imagine little kid me would’ve ate that fragrance up. But if you’re not afraid of it & love SUPER floral scents definitely get OG Selena Gomez you’d absolutely love it!
Overall Rating: 9.5/10 I only took .5 point away bc I do wish you got more product for the price point.
I love the scent, I love the packaging & I love that Selena had accessibility for all people in mind!
Building on my initial thoughts about Rare Beauty's 'Rare' fragrance, I wanted to dive deeper into some aspects that truly make or break a perfume experience, especially given how many of you are curious about its nuances. First, let's talk more about the scent profile and how it evolves. When I first spray 'Rare,' I immediately get a warm, inviting burst of vanilla and caramel – it's like a comforting dessert but not overly sweet or cloying. After about 15-20 minutes, the subtle sandalwood starts to emerge, grounding the sweetness with a soft, woody note. What surprised me is that faint floral whisper; it's not listed, but it adds an unexpected layer of freshness that prevents the gourmand notes from becoming too heavy. On my skin, this fragrance has a moderate projection for the first few hours, then settles into a lovely skin scent that lasts for about 6-8 hours. I find it perfect for everyday wear, especially in cooler weather, but it's versatile enough for an evening out. If you love cozy, slightly sweet, and elegant scents that aren't overpowering, 'Rare' is definitely one to consider. Now, let's turn our attention to the physical presentation, which is a huge part of the luxury perfume experience. The Rare Beauty 'Rare' perfume bottle itself is a work of art – its unique, rounded shape feels substantial and modern in my hand. The gold-toned cap adds a touch of elegance, and the overall minimalist design is very chic. It also comes nestled in a lovely pink packaging box, which makes it feel incredibly special, either as a gift or a treat for yourself. The atomizer delivers a fine, even mist, which is crucial for good application. Comparing it to the Selena Gomez original fragrance bottle, the contrast is clear. While the 'Rare' bottle is sleek and contemporary, Selena's OG bottle has a distinctive, almost whimsical design with its purple and gold elements on the cap. Both are unique, but they cater to very different aesthetics. If you appreciate modern design, 'Rare' will definitely appeal, but if you're drawn to more opulent, playful bottles, the OG Selena Gomez perfume might be more your style. Regarding the 50mL for $75 price point, I understand the hesitation. While it might seem a bit steep for the volume compared to some other celebrity fragrances, it's essential to consider the quality of the juice and the overall brand experience. For me, 50mL typically lasts me a good 4-6 months with regular use, as I often rotate my perfumes. To make your 50mL bottle last even longer, I recommend applying it to pulse points right after moisturizing – the scent will cling better and diffuse beautifully throughout the day. A few sprays on the neck, wrists, and even behind the knees can make a big difference in longevity and projection. Think of it as a small luxury; sometimes, quality over quantity truly applies. Even if you're a fan of Rare Beauty's other beloved products, like their popular lip butter, you'll find that 'Rare' perfume aligns perfectly with the brand's commitment to high-quality, thoughtfully crafted beauty. It truly embodies the accessible yet luxurious vibe that Rare Beauty is known for.
