Turkey day 2024
Turkey Day 2024 was truly one for the books! Every year, I look forward to this special day, not just for the delicious food (though that's a huge bonus!), but for the priceless moments spent with family. This year, it felt even more important to just slow down and appreciate everyone around me. We started the day with our usual tradition of watching the parade – PJs and coffee are a must! Then, it was a flurry of activity in the kitchen, with everyone contributing their signature dish. I love how cooking together always turns into a laughter-filled session, with stories from years past and silly jokes. My younger niece, who's usually glued to her phone, even helped mash the potatoes this time, and it was so sweet to see her get involved. Later in the afternoon, after we’d indulged in the most incredible turkey, stuffing, and all the fixings, we gathered for our annual 'gratitude circle.' It's a simple tradition where we all share one thing we're truly thankful for. This year, I mentioned how much I appreciate having a family that supports and loves each other unconditionally, through thick and thin. Of course, no family gathering is complete without a bit of fun! My sister, the woman in red glasses you see in our selfie, always insists on a group photo. This year, we got a bit silly. My niece, the younger woman in clear glasses, suggested we all do a duck face, and I added a peace sign for good measure! It's these spontaneous, joyful moments that truly make the day unforgettable. It might seem like a small thing, but looking back at photos like this one always brings a huge smile to my face. It reminds me of the pure happiness and connection we share. As the day wound down, with the smell of pumpkin pie still lingering, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of peace and contentment. It's not about perfection; it's about presence.
