Diabetes Mellitus🩺

2024/6/5 Edited to

... Read moreDiabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition marked by high levels of glucose in the blood. The body’s inability to produce enough insulin or effectively use the insulin it produces leads to this condition. Type 1 diabetes occurs due to autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells, often diagnosed in younger individuals, whereas Type 2 diabetes is more common and associated with lifestyle factors such as obesity and inactivity. Symptoms include excessive thirst (polydipsia), increased hunger (polyphagia), and frequent urination (polyuria). These signs arise because, due to insulin resistance, the body's cells cannot utilize glucose effectively, prompting the release of ketones and causing a higher lipid profile risk. Furthermore, individuals may experience fatigue and blurred vision as blood glucose levels fluctuate. Effective management is crucial in preventing complications. Strategies include regular exercise, dietary modifications, monitoring blood sugar levels, and, if necessary, medication. Individuals are advised to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week, maintain a balanced diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins, and monitor their foot health daily to prevent diabetic complications. Regular check-ups for cardiovascular health and understanding sexually appropriate techniques for blood glucose management are also essential to mitigate risks associated with diabetes. By recognizing the symptoms early and implementing lifestyle changes, individuals can lead a healthier, more active life.
