Healing COST me friendships - but SAVED me. ✨
No one talks enough about the grief that comes with healing.
Not just grief over the past…
But grief for people who are still here.
People you still care about —
but who can’t come with you where you’re going
I thought healing would feel empowering.
Unstoppable. Glorious.
And… sometimes it does.
But other times?
It felt lonely.
Confusing.
Isolating.
Because when I started setting boundaries…
When I stopped shrinking…
When I began honoring my intuition…
Some people faded.
And some stayed — but only the version of me that kept shrinking for their comfort.
I used to try to explain myself.
Apologize for changing.
Overextend just to keep the peace —
even when it caused chaos inside of me.
I would carry guilt like it was mine to hold.
But eventually…
I stopped apologizing to them —
and started apologizing to myself.
That’s when I realized:
I wasn’t changing “too much.”
I was becoming who I was always meant to be.
And that version of me?
Deserves peace.
Deserves boundaries.
Deserves to be fully, unapologetically seen.
Healing cost me:
🖤 Some friendships
🖤 Some shared histories
🖤 Some inside jokes I still miss
🖤 Some places I no longer visit
But healing gave me:
💫 My peace
💫 My self-trust
💫 My truth
💫 Myself.
I’m not angry.
I’m not bitter.
My love never stopped —
but now I love me even more.
And I’d rather walk aligned
than be accepted by people who don’t see me.
It still stings sometimes.
Certain smells.
Certain songs.
Certain phrases — they all take me back.
But I’m not stuck in the past.
I’m just clear:
Not everyone is meant to grow with you.
And that’s okay.
Growth doesn’t mean I’m above them.
It means I’m beyond the version of me
who tolerated what I no longer accept.
To the past versions of me who stayed too long,
who loved too deeply,
who tolerated too much —
Thank you for surviving.
I love you.
I’ve got it from here.

Healing is a profound journey that brings not only transformation but also a unique kind of grief—grief for the people and pieces of life we must leave behind. This grief is not just about the past versions of ourselves; it also touches on relationships with those who remain in our lives but no longer align with our growth. When we begin to honor our truth and set firm boundaries, some friendships fade because they were based on versions of us that were shrinking to fit others’ comfort zones. Many individuals experience this conflict during healing—feeling isolated or misunderstood as they evolve. The process often involves overcoming the habit of over-apologizing and carrying undue guilt for changes that are necessary for mental and emotional well-being. It's important to understand that growth does not mean becoming better than others but rather becoming the truest version of yourself—the person who no longer tolerates things that harm their peace. The costs of healing—lost friendships, cherished memories, and changed environments—can sting, triggered by familiar sights, sounds, and smells. Yet, the gains include invaluable peace, self-trust, authenticity, and self-love. Healing enables one to love from a distance without bitterness, prioritizing alignment with one's values over acceptance by those who fail to see one's true self. Understanding that not everyone is meant to grow with us is crucial. This insight brings freedom and clarity, helping individuals to appreciate past versions of themselves who endured hardship and ultimately to embrace the new self with gratitude and strength. Healing, at its core, is about survival, transformation, and the courage to walk a path true to oneself, even when it means saying goodbye to some relationships that no longer serve us. Keywords related to this journey include grief and growth, friendship breakups, setting boundaries, healing out loud, and outgrowing friendships. These themes resonate widely and highlight the complex emotions intertwined with personal transformation.
