... Read moreThe Goodreads Yearly Reading Challenge is such an incredible motivator for me! Every year, I look forward to setting a new goal and seeing how many wonderful stories I can immerse myself in. It's more than just a number; it's about making reading a consistent, enjoyable part of my life, and Goodreads truly makes that ambition feel achievable.
This year, for my 2024 Reading Challenge on Goodreads, I set a goal of 20 books. I'm thrilled to report that I've already read 12 of them, hitting a solid 60% of my goal! Seeing that progress bar fill up is incredibly satisfying. It's a visual reminder of how far I've come and keeps me excited about the journey ahead. Right now, I'm feeling that familiar push to "speed up" and tackle those final 8 books. My current reading list includes some fantastic titles like Caraval, which I've been meaning to get to, and A Touch of Darkness, which looks absolutely gripping, not to mention the hefty but rewarding The Priory of the Orange Tree.
Goodreads provides such a fantastic suite of services that really align with a reader's ambitions. Beyond just setting a numerical goal, it acts as a personal reading journal. I can track what I'm reading, when I started and finished, and even how many pages I've read. This helps me understand my reading habits better. The social aspect is also huge – I love seeing what friends are reading, getting recommendations, and even joining discussions. It transforms a solitary activity into a shared experience, offering endless inspiration for my next read.
For anyone looking to hit their own yearly reading challenge goals, especially if you're feeling a bit stuck or need to 'speed up' like me, I've picked up a few tips over the years:
Set a Realistic (but Flexible!) Goal: It's great to challenge yourself, but don't aim for 100 books if you only read 10 last year. Start manageable, and you can always increase it! Also, don't be afraid to adjust if life gets in the way. It's about enjoyment, not stress.
Diverse Your Reads: Don't stick to just one genre or length. Sometimes a quick, engaging novella can give you a boost when you're in a slump, or an audiobook can help you "read" while doing chores or commuting.
Utilize Your Library: Access to free books, especially e-books and audiobooks, can significantly increase your reading volume without breaking the bank. Many library apps integrate well with e-readers.
Schedule Reading Time: Even 15-30 minutes a day adds up. Think of it like any other important appointment. Whether it's during your lunch break, before bed, or with your morning coffee, consistent small chunks are powerful.
Don't Be Afraid to DNF (Did Not Finish): This is a game-changer. If a book isn't grabbing you after 50-100 pages, it's okay to put it down. Life's too short for books you don't enjoy, and forcing yourself through a bad read can kill your motivation. Move on to something else that sparks joy!
Join a Reading Community: Whether it's on Goodreads, a local book club, or an online forum, having fellow readers to chat with, share recommendations, and hold you accountable can be incredibly motivating.
The Goodreads Yearly Reading Challenge has truly enriched my reading life. It's a fantastic tool to track progress, discover new authors, and connect with other bookworms. Here's to finishing strong and celebrating every book read!
I’m almost on 41 (50 pages left of this book) out of 100!!! I also read a lot of manga though and i do consider it towards my goal even if it’s easier to get through than novels :) my most recent book was Never Lie by Freida Mcfadden
