✨ he's an angel ✨

... Read moreYou know that feeling when an idea just clicks and you have to draw it? That's exactly how I felt when starting this angelic digital art piece. I've always been fascinated by the idea of angelic figures, but I wanted to give mine a unique, perhaps more melancholic, touch. It honestly started with just wanting to draw some really pretty hair and then the halo and the whole aesthetic just flowed from there. When I'm sketching an angelic drawing like this, the hair is always a huge focus for me. For this figure, I really wanted to capture a 'shaggy hair' look but still make it feel ethereal and light, almost wind-swept. My trick is to use multiple layers for the hair, starting with broad shapes and then adding finer strands. I also play a lot with light and shadow to give it that soft, glowing effect, almost as if the light from the glowing halo is reflecting off each strand. Think about how natural light catches hair, and then exaggerate it a bit for that dreamy, angelic vibe. And speaking of halos, they're such a classic angelic element! Instead of just a simple ring, I love to make mine 'glowing halos' with a soft, diffused light around them. I usually achieve this by using a soft-edged brush and a slightly brighter, desaturated color, then adding a Gaussian blur. Sometimes, I'll even add a subtle sparkle effect around the halo to enhance that magical feel. The color choice can also really influence the mood – here, I went for a warm, gentle glow to complement the overall soft aesthetic. The expression was key for this piece. I found that a 'melancholic expression' added so much depth and storytelling to the angelic figure. It's not always about pure joy; sometimes, a quiet sadness can be incredibly beautiful and moving. I spent a good amount of time on the eyes and the slight downturn of the mouth to convey that feeling without making it overtly dramatic. Finally, don't forget the background! A 'patterned background' can add so much visual interest without distracting from your main subject. For this piece, I incorporated 'sparkling stars' to reinforce the celestial, dreamlike atmosphere. It's all about building that 'soft, aesthetic feel' with every element you add. And for anyone wondering about the color palette, I tend to gravitate towards soft pastels, like the subtle pink top on my figure, paired with darker tones to create contrast and make those ethereal elements really pop. I hope these little insights into my process help you with your own angelic drawings!
