🌏 Turkmenistan, a Central Asian country with a population of about 7.5 million, has only 15 Japanese residents but as many as 15,000 people learn Japanese, about one in 500 of the population.
🎓 The wave of Japanese language learning increased sharply after former Prime Minister Abe s visit in 2015; many schools introduced Japanese language and Japanese education models.
🏛️ Ashgabat is famous for its synchronous white-covered architecture; white cars occupy the majority, clean streets, strict urban management but daily life is quite stable.
🤝 The author gave two lectures on the centennial culture and business of Japan, attracting local students and businessmen, lively exchanges lasting many hours.
🐎 The country also promotes the image of Akhal-Teke horses and cultural heritage; exchanges with Japan are seen as an opportunity to look back on national identity.
📈 From practical experience, the previously "closed" image is seen more multidimensional; cultural exchanges help the two sides understand each other more deeply.
私自身、トルクメニスタンのように外国語学習が少人数の日本人居住者数をはるかに上回る事例は非常に興味深く感じました。 特に、日本語が中央アジアの国でこれほど急速に広まっている背景には、政治的な交流だけでなく、教育や文化に対する積極的な姿勢があります。例えば日本語教育が学校のカリキュラムに組み込まれることで、若い世代が日本語を学べる環境が整いました。こうした環境整備が学習者数の増加に直結していると実感しています。 また、トルクメニスタンの首都アシガバットの街並みが白を基調とした統一感のあるデザインで整備されている様子は、訪れた人に強い印象を残します。都市管理が行き届き、清 潔な環境が整っていることで、日常生活の質も高いと聞き、文化交流に対する国の意識の高さを感じました。 私も以前、他国で日本文化の講演をした経験がありますが、現地の学生やビジネスマンが熱心に話を聞き、活発な意見交換ができたのは非常に貴重な体験でした。こうした交流を通じて、お互いの文化理解が深まることが最終的には国際友好に繋がるのだと実感しました。 トルクメニスタンの伝統的な馬、アハルテケの紹介や文化的な遺産の発信も、国家のアイデンティティを保ちながら新たな国際発信力を築く好例でしょう。言語や文化の橋渡しを担う日本語学習者たちが今後も増え続けることで、両国のより密接な関係が築かれていくことを期待しています。
