she has gotten so good at putting herself to sleep 🩷 if she ever does start to cry in the crib we will go in and help her cribside and that normally does the trick 🥹

Establishing a consistent nap routine for a 4-month-old baby can be a wonderful way to encourage independent sleep habits, which ultimately benefits both the baby and the parents. From my experience, one of the most helpful strategies is to create a calm and soothing environment right before nap time. This can include dimming the lights, playing soft white noise, or gently rocking your baby until they’re drowsy but still awake. The key is to lay your baby down in their crib while they're still awake, supporting their ability to self-soothe. It's normal for babies to fuss a little during this transition, but responding with calm reassurance—such as quietly talking or gentle patting—can provide comfort without becoming fully hands-on. This approach, which avoids letting the baby cry it out alone, helps them build confidence in falling asleep by themselves. I found that if my baby started to cry after being placed in the crib, going in to soothe her cribside was often enough to calm her down. This method supports independent naptime by offering emotional support without picking her up, which might disrupt the sleep routine. Over time, she became skilled at putting herself to sleep quickly, sometimes falling asleep within just a minute of being laid down. Remember, every baby is unique, and adjusting your approach based on your little one’s cues is important. Celebrate small milestones as your baby learns to nap independently and know that patience and consistency are your best tools in this journey toward restful naps and better baby sleep.
