Error and Bad!Dream
Hey everyone! Following up on my recent fanart post about Error Sans meeting Nightmare, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into the concept that really sparked my imagination. You know how in the Undertale AUs, characters often have these incredibly complex backstories and motivations? Well, the idea of Nightmare not being a separate entity, but actually Dream Sans in a darker disguise, just blew my mind! I was thinking, if you're constantly striving to be a 'good person,' always radiating positivity and hope like Dream Sans does, don't you sometimes need a break? To just let loose, embrace a different side, and perhaps even indulge in some mischief without the weight of expectation? That's exactly where my 'disguised Dream' concept for Nightmare comes from. It's not about him turning evil, but about exploring the idea of a hero needing an outlet, a way to 'have fun' and experience the world from a completely different perspective. I imagine him, in his Nightmare persona, maybe even enjoying mundane things he wouldn't usually, like having a whole pizza for breakfast without a second thought! And who knows, maybe even sipping on a refreshing strawberry pineapple coconut smoothie while plotting some minor chaos. Now, imagine the dynamic when Error encounters this version of Nightmare. Error Sans, the destroyer of AUs, the embodiment of glitches and destruction, meeting what he perceives as Nightmare, but is truly a cunningly masked Dream. Would Error sense the underlying positivity? Or would he be completely fooled by the darker facade? This interaction opens up so many possibilities for storytelling and character development. It challenges the traditional good vs. evil narrative often seen with Dream and Nightmare, adding layers of internal conflict for Dream and external confusion for Error. It makes their encounters less about a straightforward battle and more about a psychological chess game. This concept really resonated with me because it humanizes these powerful skeleton characters. It speaks to the idea that even those who represent pure good can have shadows, desires for freedom from their roles, and a need to explore different facets of their personality. It’s why I love creating AU content – it allows us to take beloved characters and push the boundaries of their established lore. What do you all think? Have you ever considered Nightmare as a 'disguised Dream'? I'd love to hear your theories on how Error Sans would react to such a revelation!
