Drawing Sonny Angels has become one of my favorite ways to unwind and express creativity! There’s something so charming about their simple, sweet faces and unique headpieces. Today, I really wanted to share my experience creating some Sonny Angel Art focusing on the super cute eggplant variant. Many of you have asked about my drawing process, and I'm happy to dive into how I approach creating these little figures. If you're wondering how to draw a Sonny Angel step-by-step or looking for tips to improve your own Sonny Angel drawing, you're in the right place! Getting Started: The Basic Outline I always begin with a light sketch using my Nicpro Pencils. The key to a good Sonny Angel outline is capturing their distinctive proportions: a relatively large, round head and a smaller, chubby body. I start with a loose circle for the head, then an oval for the body, making sure they connect smoothly. Don't worry too much about perfection at this stage; it's all about getting the basic form down. For the eggplant, I carefully sketched out its unique shape on the head, paying attention to the leaves and stem. Adding the Iconic Features Once the basic silhouette is there, I move on to their adorable faces. Sonny Angels have very simple features: two dots for eyes, a tiny 'v' shape for the nose (sometimes just implied), and a small, delicate mouth. The blush on their cheeks is also a must-have! Keeping these features symmetrical and centered is crucial for that classic Sonny Angel look. Then, I refine the outline of the eggplant headpiece, ensuring it’s proportionate to the head. Inking and Preparing for Color After I'm happy with the pencil sketch, I go over my lines with a fine-liner pen to create a crisp, clean Sonny Angel outline drawing. This step really makes the illustration pop. Before coloring, I always make sure to erase any visible pencil lines underneath. This prevents smudging and keeps the final artwork looking clean. I find Strathmore Bristol paper perfect for this, as its smooth surface takes ink beautifully without bleeding. Bringing Color to Life: My Ohuhu Markers Experience Now for the fun part: coloring! For this eggplant Sonny Angel, I used my Ohuhu Art Markers. These markers are fantastic for achieving vibrant colors and smooth blends, especially on Bristol paper. I started with the base color for the eggplant, then added subtle shading to give it dimension. For the skin, I use a light peach tone, and a soft pink for the rosy cheeks. The layering capabilities of these markers allow for a really smooth, almost painted look, which is why I love them for Sonny Angel painting and illustrations. Experiment with Mediums: While I love markers, try other tools too! Watercolors, colored pencils, or even digital art can give your Sonny Angels drawing a completely different feel. Practice Makes Perfect: The more you draw, the more comfortable you'll become with their unique style. Don't get discouraged if your first few attempts aren't exactly what you envisioned.
