Working College Student Day in the Life!!
Here is what a typical Tuesday looks like for me as an art education major and working college student!! Working and staying on top of my classes, especially my studio classes, can be difficult but in my opinion it's worth it in the long run! Sometimes with work and commuting, college life can get kind of lonely. I encourage you to use this time to go do things you enjoy and spend time with yourself!! I've discovered so many new things by exploring on my own!!

Being an art student is a unique journey, and adding a job into the mix truly ups the ante! I know firsthand how demanding it can be, especially with those intense studio classes and projects that seem to have a mind of their own. But trust me, it's absolutely possible to thrive, not just survive. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is the power of a good morning routine. It might sound simple, but things like making my bed or enjoying a morning iced coffee while listening to my favorite song (mine's "Automatic" by Half Alive right now!) can really set a positive tone for the day. Before I drive to class, I like to quickly review my schedule and prioritize tasks. This small habit helps me feel more in control, even when my day is packed. Art history classes, like the one I had this November, are fascinating but require a lot of reading and critical thinking. Then there are the studio classes – the heart of an art education major – where hours can fly by as you're lost in a project. Juggling these with deadlines means becoming a time management pro. I swear by using a planner, whether digital or physical, to map out assignments, work shifts, and even my own personal time. Breaking down large projects into smaller, manageable steps also makes them feel less daunting. For us working college students, the grind doesn't stop. Finding jobs that offer flexible hours or align with your academic schedule is crucial. On days I make it to work after a long day of classes, I often remind myself why I'm doing this – whether it's for tuition, supplies, or just a little extra spending money. It helps keep me motivated. It's easy to feel lonely when you're constantly rushing between commitments, as I mentioned in my post. That's why self-care isn't a luxury; it's essential. Treating myself to a nice lunch, like visiting a farmers market, is a small joy that recharges my batteries. And after a long day, I love winding down with a comforting meal, even if I sometimes forget to snap a picture beforehand (oops, like with my yummy pasta dinner!). Remember to schedule in time for things you love, even if it's just an hour of drawing, reading, or exploring a new part of town. These moments of personal exploration are incredibly valuable for an art student's creativity and well-being. Don't forget to connect with your peers too! Your fellow ICS college art students are going through similar experiences, and sharing tips or just venting can make a huge difference. You're not alone in this journey of balancing passion, education, and work. Keep pushing forward, and remember to celebrate the small victories along the way!
