my new fishies
Today I was able to make 2 new ceramic fish! I was actually surprised I was able to make two today. Im usually pretty slow at handbuilding but I guess I've figured out a system a bit for making these. I have been wanting to use my pottery wheel but its such a hassle to set up and now Im feeling really excited about handbuilding again. #potteryprocess #ceramics #fish #HANDMADE #homedecor
Handbuilding ceramics is a fantastic way to express creativity without the complexities that come with setting up a pottery wheel. Many ceramic hobbyists find that handbuilding allows them to experiment with shapes and textures more freely, especially when creating unique items like ceramic fish. Starting with simple coil or pinch techniques, you can gradually build up your confidence and develop a personal system that speeds up the creation process. For beginners or those who usually find handbuilding slow, breaking down the steps—such as shaping the body first, then adding fins and details—can optimize your workflow. This method not only makes the process more manageable but also helps maintain consistency when making multiples, such as two fish in one session. Additionally, handbuilt pieces often have a charming, organic feel that differs from wheel-thrown ceramics, making them perfect for decorative accents around the home. If you've been hesitant to dive into handbuilding because of slow progress, try setting up a dedicated workspace with all your tools and materials within easy reach. This reduces setup hassles and keeps your creative flow steady. Also, explore different types of clay and glazing options to enhance the surface and color of your fish ceramics. Handbuilding handmade fish can be an excellent way to bring an aquatic theme into your home decor. These pieces can serve as whimsical accents on shelves or conversation starters in your living space. Sharing your process and creations on community forums about pottery and ceramics can also inspire others and help you connect with like-minded artists. Remember, whether you prefer using a pottery wheel or handbuilding, the key is enjoying the creative journey and discovering what techniques best fit your style and schedule.

These are too cute! What color glaze are you thinking of putting on them? Or are they gonna stay au naturel lol
