tummy time: tips + facts!

hello ◡̈

As a first-time mom, I was eager to do everything right, but I didn't know much about tummy time until seemingly everyone emphasized its importance once my son was born.

I learned that tummy time helps prevent flat spots on the back of the head, strengthens neck and back muscles, and even boosts cognitive development.

I was determined to make it a priority, but I wasn't sure where to start. I began by setting aside a few minutes each day, after nap time and during playtime, to place my baby on his tummy. At first, he wasn't a fan, but with toys and mirrors to distract him, he soon grew to love it!

My baby was lifting his head, and even rolled over a few times all within his first few weeks. Seeing him thrive and reach new milestones made me realize the value of tummy time and I'm so grateful I had made it a part of our daily lives!

I continued doing it until he was crawling and now I find no need for it.

Remember, always supervise baby during tummy time and never leave them unattended!

Start tummy time with short 2-3 minute sessions and gradually increase the duration as your baby grows stronger. Use cushioned surfaces like mats or blankets for comfort. Engagement during tummy time is crucial; introduce toys, mirrors, and sounds to keep your baby entertained. Parents should participate by lying down with their baby, creating a fun and interactive environment. It's recommended to practice tummy time after naps but avoid doing it right after feedings to prevent discomfort. Be patient; it’s normal for babies to fuss at first, but consistency will help them adapt. To ensure effectiveness, try different positions like slight inclines or using supportive pillows. Remember, the goal is to make tummy time a daily activity while supervising your baby closely to ensure their safety.
