how your toddler can help with dinner! ❤️
hello ◡̈
Having your toddler engage in daily activities with you is the best way of hanging out with your toddler! But what can they really help with when it comes to making dinner? The best ways are to slowly engage them in the smaller bits of cooking, like washing fruits and veggies, or handing them to you as you're about to cut them. Teach them knife safety, too!
They can help load and unload the dishwasher, even if that means you have to redo them. They can stir things that aren't too hot — I teach my son "hot, don't touch!" And he’s caught on quickly. And of course, taste test and smell!
I know that toddlers may slow down your day to day activities, but this is them learning and trying new things, which is amazing! So, it's okay if that activity takes a few extra minutes. Just have fun! ❤️

Getting your toddler involved in the kitchen is not only a great way to bond but also helps them learn important skills. Allowing them to wash fruits and veggies introduces them to healthy eating habits. You can also engage them in simple tasks like handing over ingredients while you cook, which teaches them about food preparation. Teach them about knife safety from an early age, and consider using plastic knives for safe practice. This builds their confidence while emphasizing safety. Also, let them help with unloading and loading the dishwasher—an excellent way to learn responsibility. For fun, encourage them to taste test different ingredients, enhancing their sensory experiences and curiosity about flavors. Remember, patience is key. Although toddlers may lengthen cooking times, the joy of involving them in delicious meal-making moments is invaluable. Embrace the mess and enjoy the shared experience! Whether it's stirring, washing, or simply chatting about what you're cooking, these small moments can create lasting memories. Making dinner a family event can instill a lifelong appreciation for cooking in your child.
