Took me a long time to find the motivation too🌸🫶

... Read moreI totally get it – studying can feel like a chore sometimes, right? I used to stare at my textbooks, feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated, especially when faced with tough subjects. But one of the biggest revelations for me was discovering the incredible power of quizzing myself frequently. It’s not just about rote memorization; it's about active recall, solidifying understanding, and truly seeing progress, which makes you love studying even more! When I first started, I thought quizzing was just for teachers. But I quickly realized that by asking myself questions, I wasn't just testing what I *knew*, I was actively retrieving information, which makes it stick in my long-term memory. This process helps identify exactly where my knowledge gaps are, so I can focus my study time efficiently instead of re-reading pages I already understand. You really do love studying when you see progress, and nothing shows progress like successfully answering your own questions. So, how do you quiz yourself effectively? Here are a few ways I found super helpful: Flashcards (Digital & Physical): These are a classic for a reason! For definitions, formulas, or key concepts, flashcards are perfect. I use apps like Anki or Quizlet, which often incorporate spaced repetition – showing me tougher cards more frequently. Or, simply grab some index cards and write questions on one side, answers on the other. Practice Questions & Past Papers: If your course provides practice questions or previous exam papers, use them! Treat them like the real thing. This helps you understand the question format and time constraints. Don't just look up the answers; try to solve them first, then check your work. Explain It Aloud: Ever heard the saying, 'If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough'? Try to explain a concept out loud to an imaginary friend, a pet, or even just yourself in the mirror. If you stumble, that's an area to revisit. This is where you truly realize that knowledge is power, because you can articulate it clearly. Create Your Own Quizzes: This is a fantastic active learning strategy. As you study a chapter, jot down potential quiz questions. Later, try to answer them without looking at your notes. This forces you to think like an examiner and highlights key information. Study Groups for Peer Quizzing: Team up with friends! Take turns quizzing each other. Explaining concepts to others and hearing their explanations can provide new perspectives and reinforce your own understanding. Plus, it makes studying a bit more social and less isolating. To make these quizzing sessions even more effective, I often put on some lofi music. It helps me focus and blocks out distractions without being too intrusive. And always remember to practice positive reinforcement. Every time you get a question right, or even when you learn from a mistake, be proud of yourself. Celebrate those small wins! They stack up and fuel your motivation to keep going. Self-quizzing truly changed my academic life. It transformed studying from a passive activity into an active, engaging challenge where I could constantly track my improvement. If you're struggling to find that motivation or improve your grades, give these self-quizzing methods a try. You'll be amazed at how quickly you start to not just understand, but truly love learning, and those good grades will follow!
