I don't want to be

2025/1/24 Edited to

... Read moreI remember a time when I felt like I was constantly battling an invisible force, a nagging feeling that I didn't want to be confined to a single path. Society often presents us with a narrow blueprint for life – go to college, get a stable job, settle down. But what if that blueprint doesn't fit your unique spirit? For me, recognizing this disconnect was the first step towards a profound journey of embracing diverse life choices, which ultimately became a cornerstone for my mental health. Initially, the thought of diverging from the norm was terrifying. There's comfort in conformity, even if it brings a quiet dissatisfaction. But the weight of 'not wanting to be' something I wasn't meant to be, grew heavier than the fear of the unknown. I began to question every aspect of my life, from my career aspirations to my daily routine, and even my relationships. This wasn't about rebellion for rebellion's sake, but about genuine introspection into what truly brought me peace and fulfillment. Making diverse life choices isn't just about grand gestures, like quitting your job to travel the world (though it can be!). It can be as simple as choosing a hobby that's completely outside your professional sphere, opting for a living situation that prioritizes peace over prestige, or even curating your social circle to include people who genuinely uplift you. For instance, I started dedicating time to a creative pursuit that had no direct financial gain, simply because it brought me immense joy. This small, diverse choice opened up a new avenue for self-expression and significantly reduced my stress levels. One of the most impactful changes I made was consciously designing my daily routine around my energy levels and personal values, rather than just societal expectations. This meant saying 'no' more often to things that drained me and 'yes' to activities that nourished my soul. It wasn't easy at first; there were moments of guilt and self-doubt. However, as I consistently prioritized my well-being through these diverse choices, I noticed a dramatic improvement in my mental health. Anxiety lessened, and a sense of purpose started to blossom. To help navigate these big decisions and map out my diverse life choices, I found journaling incredibly powerful. I'd sit down with my thoughts, often using a sturdy journal with 60 sheets of 110lb (180gsm) paper, which allowed me to sketch, write, and brainstorm without worrying about ink bleeding through. This physical act of putting ideas on paper helped me clarify my desires and fears, making the process of choosing less daunting. It became a personal space to explore 'what if' scenarios and visualize the positive impact these choices could have on my mental health. My journey taught me that mental well-being isn't a destination, but a continuous process of aligning your life with your authentic self. Embracing diverse life choices means giving yourself permission to explore, experiment, and evolve. It’s about understanding that your path doesn't have to look like anyone else's, and in that uniqueness, you find your greatest strength and deepest sense of mental peace. If you're feeling that same 'I don't want to be' sentiment, I encourage you to start exploring what diverse choices might bring you greater happiness and balance.

I know these are a little maximalist for a lot of people, but personally I really love the mix of themes and silhouettes that this whole look would create on me! The style of this all is very abstract and asymmetrical, but I feel like it could balance out. I definitely think I want to be more maxim
