How do you handle this?

I’m approaching 3 years without my father. He unexpectedly passed away on December 13th. I have been learning to adjust from he’s permanent absence and of course this is very difficult not only for me but my family as well.

I have so far tried to make sure we keep smiling and having fun around the holidays because I know that is what he’ll want for us. He was a person that loved a great time and loved to see people come together.

Every year we have been surrounding ourselves with amazing friends and my mother to have a good time. What are some ways that you may have dealt with grief around the holidays?

For those navigating this difficult time, it's essential to acknowledge your feelings and find healthy ways to cope. One approach could be to create new traditions that honor their memory, such as lighting a candle in their name or sharing stories about them with family and friends. Engaging in community support can also provide relief. Many local organizations offer grief counseling, support groups, or workshops that focus on processing loss. Online forums and social media groups, such as those allowing discussions on #holidaygrief, can create space for individuals to share their experiences and find comfort in community connections. Additionally, taking time for self-care is vital; engage in activities that bring you peace, such as going for a walk in nature or practicing mindfulness. Remember that it's okay to not fully feel joyful during this season. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals can help create a nurturing environment, allowing you to celebrate the bond you had with your loved one while also managing your grief. Ultimately, everyone's journey through grief is personal, and discovering what resonates best with you will help foster healing in your heart. Remember, you're not alone in your experience, and sharing your story, just as many others have, can offer hope and ease during the holidays.

I pretend I’m the main character in a movie, it usually helps me to keep my mind clear and focused. It also helps me to deal with emotions the right way.
