Lmk any tips and tricks
I’m starting a new project, with growing potatoes in a bucket.
Here’s what I did:
- drilled holes in the bottom for drainage
- mixed 1/3 compost, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 peat moss
- left the potatoes, with healthy sprouts, out for two days do they aren’t exposed to moisture before putting them in the ground
- filled about 2-3 inches of soil in the bottom of bucket
- put the 2 potato pieces into the soil
- covered the potatoes with a layer of soil six inches from the potatoes

Growing potatoes in buckets can significantly enhance your gardening experience, especially for those with limited space. Start by selecting the right potato varieties—early-season potatoes tend to perform well in containers. Ensure you drill adequate drainage holes to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. For your soil mix, incorporating a blend of rich compost, perlite for aeration, and peat moss will create an optimal growing environment. Remember to monitor the moisture levels regularly, as bucket gardens can dry out faster than traditional ones. Beyond just planting, consider hilling the potatoes as they grow; this involves adding more soil to encourage tuber formation. Lastly, keep an eye out for pests like aphids and beetles, which can affect your crop. With the right care and attention, you can have a bountiful harvest of delicious homegrown potatoes.

I love potatoes!
