Senior photos, but make it spirited! As a proud cheer mama, I knew we had to capture the fun, energy, and bond that comes with this special season. Here are my favorite tips for a mom & senior cheer shoot:
📸 Styling: Keep it classic with denim and school colors! Matching or coordinating outfits make for timeless photos. Add school tees or letterman jackets for a sentimental touch.
💄 Makeup: Go for a natural, glowy look! Soft glam with defined lashes and a touch of bronzer keeps the focus on YOU while looking polished on camera. There are tons of diaries about soft-glam look on Lemon8 so I highly recommend you check those out!
🎭 Poses & Expressions: Have fun with it!
Action shots with a megaphone for that game-day energy.
A soft, sentimental pose with mom holding pom-poms behind you.
A confident arms-crossed or power pose to show off all those years of hard work!
📣 Props: Bring school spirit to life! Pom-poms, a megaphone, or even your uniform add personality to the shoot. Bonus points for throwing in a stunt or jump for some dynamic shots!
Senior year flies by, so capturing these moments is everything. Tag a cheer mama who needs to plan a session like this! 💛🖤

... Read moreIt's true, senior year truly does fly by, and capturing those precious cheer memories felt like such a huge milestone for us! As a cheer mom, I learned so much during our senior cheer photoshoot that I wish I knew earlier, and I'm excited to share even more tips to help you get those epic cheerleader pictures that you’ll treasure forever.
Beyond the classic poses, we found that focusing on authenticity really made our photos shine. For dynamic cheer photo poses, don't be afraid to try some actual cheers or even a small, safe stunt if your photographer is experienced. Think about capturing the energy of game day! We got some incredible shots of my daughter mid-jump, and another playful one where she was 'yelling' into her megaphone, with the pom-poms flying behind her. These action shots truly reflect the hard work and passion she poured into cheerleading.
We also played around with different angles for those close-up cheer photo poses. We wanted to make sure her natural glowy makeup looked perfect, so we focused on capturing her determined and joyful expressions. One of my favorites was a close-up of her smiling, with her black and gold pom-poms framing her face, just like in some of our favorite shots! It really highlighted her school spirit.
Choosing the right location is another game-changer for a cheer photoshoot. While our school stadium was great, we also found a modern glass building nearby that offered a cool, urban backdrop, which contrasted beautifully with her classic light t-shirt and blue jeans. Think about locations that mean something to your senior – maybe the practice field where they spent countless hours, or even a spot with beautiful natural light. 'Golden hour' (the hour before sunset) works wonders for that soft, warm glow in any cheerleader pictures.
And let's talk props! Of course, the megaphone and pom-poms are a must for any senior cheer shoot. But don't forget other sentimental items. Did your cheerleader earn a special award? Do they have a letterman jacket? Incorporating these personal touches makes the photos uniquely theirs. We even brought a small banner from their first competition for a few shots – it added a sweet, nostalgic touch.
Finally, remember to just have fun with it! The best cheer photo poses come from genuine moments. Encourage your senior to laugh, interact with you (if it’s a mom-daughter shoot), and just be themselves. These aren't just pictures; they're a celebration of years of dedication, friendship, and school spirit. Once you have these amazing pictures, you can use them for everything from yearbook ads to graduation announcements, or even custom gifts for family. Trust me, these cheerleader pictures will be cherished for a lifetime!
