I'm always looking for ways to bring a little extra joy into my space, and nothing does it quite like a fresh bouquet. Speaking of which, if you're like me and adore daisies, there's just something about their cheerful simplicity that brightens any day. They truly are my hands-down favorite! Beyond their classic charm, daisies actually carry a lovely symbolism of innocence, purity, and new beginnings – which feels just right as we transition from one month to the next. Did you know there are so many varieties? From the common white and yellow garden daisy to the vibrant Gerbera daisies that come in a rainbow of colors, there’s a daisy for every mood. Exploring the different types can be a fun way to find your next floral obsession! And let's talk about getting the best blooms! I totally stand by my earlier tip: Trader Joe's often has amazing fresh flowers and plants at super reasonable prices. It's my go-to for a quick pick-me-up. But beyond buying, keeping these beauties alive and thriving for as long as possible is key. Here are a few simple tips I've picked up: Re-cut Stems: As soon as you get your flowers home, snip about an inch off the bottom of each stem at an angle. This helps them absorb water more efficiently. Fresh Water Daily: Change the water in your vase every day, or at least every other day. Stagnant water can breed bacteria that clog stems. Flower Food is Your Friend: Use the little packet of flower food that often comes with your bouquet. If you don't have one, a tiny drop of bleach (seriously!) can help keep bacteria at bay, or a mix of sugar, vinegar, and water. Remove Submerged Leaves: Any leaves below the waterline will rot and contaminate the water, so remove them. Cool Spot: Keep your flowers away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and ripening fruit (which releases ethylene gas that can prematurely age flowers). There's something incredibly satisfying about making your flowers last, extending that little piece of nature's beauty in your home. As we wave goodbye to June, consider treating yourself to a fresh bouquet, maybe even some lovely daisies, and enjoy the simple pleasure they bring. It's a wonderful way to appreciate the passing seasons and add a touch of personal flair to your living space!
