Supply Swap with a Junk Journal Friend 👯♀️
Supply swaps are so much fun! This one is from @Sune_Anne 🩵 #junkjournal #junkjournaling #junkjournalcommunity #friends #friendship
I totally agree, supply swaps are an absolute blast! Receiving a package filled with creative treasures from a fellow crafter like @Sune_Anne (as mentioned in the article) is like Christmas morning for a junk journal enthusiast. But if you've ever wondered how to get started or what makes a truly great journal supply swap, you're in the right place! For me, journal swaps aren't just about getting new supplies; they're about connecting with an amazing community and sparking fresh inspiration. It's a fantastic way to discover new materials you might not have picked yourself, clear out some of your own crafting stash (giving it a new life!), and build friendships with people who share your passion. Plus, there's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing how someone else approaches their craft. So, how do you go about organizing your own fabulous junk journal swap? First things first, find your swap partner! You can connect with fellow journalers in online communities, Facebook groups, or even amongst your real-life friends. Once you have a partner, it’s super important to set some expectations. We usually discuss: Theme or Style: Do we want to stick to a certain color palette, vintage theme, or perhaps a specific type of ephemera? This helps guide our selections. Value/Quantity: We don't put a price tag on it, but we discuss a general idea of how many items or how much material to include so it feels fair for both sides. Handmade vs. Bought: Sometimes we focus heavily on handmade items, like hand-dyed papers or custom tags, and other times it's more about sharing store-bought ephemera or fabric scraps. Preferences: I always ask my partner if there's anything they particularly love or anything they have too much of. For example, I might mention I'm always looking for small paper scraps for collage or vintage stamps. Now, for the fun part: what to actually include in your swap! This is where you can get really creative. Think about all the little bits and bobs that make junk journal spreads so unique. Here are some of my go-to ideas: Ephemera Packs: Old book pages, music sheets, vintage postcards, tickets, receipts, maps, coffee-dyed papers – anything with a story! Fabric & Lace Scraps: Tiny pieces of fabric, lace, ribbon, or trims are perfect for adding texture and interest to pages. Stickers & Embellishments: Small sticker sheets, die-cuts, buttons, beads, charms, or even dried flowers. Stamps & Washi Tape Samples: If you have a large collection, sharing small samples of unique washi tape or a few stamped images is wonderful. Handmade Goodies: This is where you can really shine! Think mini envelopes, decorated tags, small decorated paper clips, or even a few pre-made pockets or tuck spots ready for a junk journal spread. I love creating tiny collage pieces or hand-stitching a small fabric snippet. These personal touches truly elevate the swap. Found Objects: Interesting bits of nature like pressed leaves, small feathers, or even unique packaging elements can be fantastic for adding a rustic feel. When putting your swap package together, presentation matters! I love to wrap items neatly, maybe tie them with some twine or a pretty ribbon, and always include a handwritten note. It makes the unboxing experience so much more special. Receiving a swap package is an absolute joy. It’s a moment of pure inspiration, seeing all the new potential for your next junk journal spreads. It really fuels my creativity and helps me think outside the box. If you haven't tried a journal supply swap yet, I highly recommend it. It's a fantastic way to refresh your stash, make new friends, and keep your creative juices flowing!
